Payroll Tax and Compliance Specialist

Performs research to identify and clarify regulatory requirements affecting payroll recording, taxability, tax calculation, tax payment, tax reporting forms, and all means of electronic tax filing and data exchange. Collaborates with configuration owners and outsource provider to convey requirements, collaborate on designs, and perform testing for solutions across SCI’s products and services.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensures the accuracy of all systems settings for compliance to tax regulations and legislation.
- Collaborates with configuration owners and outsource providers to analyze and resolve any discrepancies in withholdings and tax transmissions.
- Researches and leads efforts to implement new tax jurisdictions and legislative changes by;
- Developing business requirements
- Collaborating with IT to configure ERP correctly
- Assist with defining the test plan, ensuring the expected results are demonstrated through the testing process, and verifying the business change is correctly implemented
- Communicate changes to associates affected by change.
- Researches and provides feedback on complex tax issues or changes.
- Leads internal year-end tax reconciliation process and has oversight of the distribution of accurate annual statements of earnings (W-2, T4s and RL1s).
- Audits the accuracy of payroll tax filings.
- Assists in the resolution of out of balance situations.
- Subject matter expert for associate payroll tax issues.
- Collaborates with taxing agencies and proposes solutions for payroll tax issues.
- Interfaces directly and routinely with IT staff in regard to payroll transactions, Internal Auditors, Treasury, state, federal, and local taxing authorities.
- Assists Managers in the development and implementation of payroll business processes.
- Develops the test cases and test plans that are needed to validate that systems compute and behave properly.
- Executes test cases and monitor success and failure throughout the development life cycle.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education
- Some college coursework
Experience
- One (1) year of related experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Proficient knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation, written, and other communication skills
- Self-motivated, creative problem solver with good time management skills, the ability to meet deadlines, strong attention to detail
- Ability to grasp concepts quickly, demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
- Understanding of payroll, tax, and accounting and/or related subject matter
- Understanding of regulatory and legislative guidelines
