About The Role

The NRC office in Shostka is a growing operational hub supporting humanitarian and recovery activities in north-east Ukraine. Due to the expansion of programming and the increasing size of the team, there is a need to strengthen logistical capacity. The Driver role is key to ensuring safe, timely and efficient transportation of staff, materials and documents, as well as providing support to programme and operational activities in the field.

The Driver is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of NRC staff, visitors, documents, and goods, as well as for maintaining the assigned vehicle in good working condition. The role also provides logistical and basic administrative support to programme and operational teams, in accordance with NRC policies and procedures.

Generic Responsibilities

  1. Transport NRC staff, visitors, documents, and goods/materials to designated destinations when officially approved
  2. Ensure the safety and security of passengers, goods, and the vehicle at all times
  3. Respect local traffic laws and NRC vehicle and logistical policies
  4. Maintain accurate vehicle logbooks and trip documentation
  5. Ensure the vehicle is kept in good operating condition, including cleanliness, fuel level and technical checks
  6. Immediately report accidents, breakdowns, damages, or maintenance needs
  7. Liaise with the line manager regarding vehicle servicing, repairs, and inspections
  8. Ensure the vehicle carries all required documents and safety equipment
  9. Provide logistical support during trainings, workshops, and field missions
  10. Ensure compliance with NRC policies, guidance and procedures

Specific responsibilities

  • Drive NRC vehicles for delivery and collection of mail, documents, parcels, equipment and other materials as requested by the line manager
  • Support programme teams with loading, unloading and transportation of humanitarian assistance during field missions
  • Provide basic clerical and administrative support to operational and programme activities when required
  • Accept flexible working hours based on operational needs; overtime is compensated according to NRC regulations
  • Support movement planning and coordination in collaboration with logistics colleagues
  • Perform other duties as delegated by the line manager

  • Programme teams – to support field missions and delivery of humanitarian assistance
  • Logistics team – to ensure compliance with vehicle management and logistical procedures
  • Administration and operations staff – for coordination of movements, documentation and support tasks.
  • Generic professional competencies
  • Valid driving license
  • Proven experience working as a driver, preferably in humanitarian, recovery or emergency contexts
  • Experience operating in complex and volatile environments
  • Demonstrated ability to handle responsibility for people and assets
  • Basic knowledge of English is an advantage
  • Basic computer literacy (MS Word, internet applications)

Context related skills, knowledge and experience

  • Knowledge of the local context and road conditions in northern Ukraine
  • Humanitarian-related trainings or certificates are an advantage
  • Experience driving outside of Ukraine and the legal right to cross borders is an advantage
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing security and operational conditions
