At DNV Shipping Advisory, we help leading maritime companies navigate the major developments shaping the industry. We combine maritime and technical expertise with an understanding of shipping operations, business, markets and regulations to help clients balance decarbonization, competitiveness and regulatory compliance in a rapidly changing environment.

To support continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Senior Consultant or Principal Consultant to join our team in Oslo. You will join a highly engaged team with a strong collaborative culture and work closely with colleagues across DNV's global network in a truly international environment.

About Shipping Advisory

Shipping Advisory is part of DNV Maritime Advisory and provides advisory services to clients across the whole maritime value chain including shipowners, operators, charterers, ports, financial institutions and authorities.

Our work includes

  • Supporting customers in optimizing their fleet to meet decarbonization regulations and drivers, through energy-efficiency improvements, technical measures and alternative fuels
  • Developing decarbonization strategies and transition roadmaps
  • Improving fleet performance, efficiency and competitiveness
  • Developing sustainability strategies, ESG assessments and reporting, and supporting green finance initiatives such as Poseidon Principles and sustainability-linked financing
  • Conducting logistics, market, feasibility and techno-economic analyses to support investment decisions, strategy and policy development

We are also strengthening our focus on smart shipping, digitalization and the use of data and AI, and see significant opportunities to develop new services that help customers improve performance, support decision-making and accelerate business transformation.

The role

Depending on your experience and qualifications, you will join as either a Senior Consultant or Principal Consultant.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to shape and grow our advisory business by

  • Identifying new market needs and translating them into relevant advisory services and project opportunities
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key customers and acting as a trusted advisor on decarbonization, digitalization, performance and broader strategic and technical challenges
  • Delivering and leading advisory projects and providing strategic and analytical advice to clients
  • Contributing to the development of Shipping Advisory’s direction, capabilities and service offering
  • Sharing knowledge and supporting the professional development of colleagues

For Principal Consultant candidates, you will take a leading role in developing key customer relationships, creating new market opportunities, sponsoring major projects, mentoring colleagues and shaping the continued development of Shipping Advisory.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for candidates with strong analytical skills, commercial awareness and an interest in solving complex challenges in the maritime industry.

Relevant qualifications include

  • MSc or equivalent higher education within marine technology, industrial economics or other relevant discipline. Candidates with a business degree combined with relevant industry experience are also encouraged to apply
  • A solid track record from the maritime sector, for example from shipowners, operators, charterers, or consulting. The final position level will depend on the candidate's qualifications and experience
  • Experience within areas such as decarbonization, energy efficiency, ship management, market analysis, strategy development or digitalization is considered an advantage
  • We also welcome candidates with a strong consulting background, particularly where advisory, business development and project delivery experience can complement more traditional maritime industry experience
  • Experience leading projects and working directly with clients
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to structure and communicate complex information clearly
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Norwegian language skills are an advantage

For candidates considered for a Principal Consultant role, experience with project leadership, client engagement, sales and business development will be particularly valued.
