About The Role

Bring complex power and industrial facilities to life in an intelligent 3D environment. WSP South Africa is seeking an experienced SmartPlant 3D Modeller to join our Power and Energy business in Midrand. You will contribute to significant energy projects across Southern Africa and internationally, working with multidisciplinary specialists to build coordinated, data-rich plant models that improve design quality, constructability and project delivery.

In this role, you will use Hexagon Smart 3D, commonly known as SmartPlant 3D or SP3D, to develop and maintain accurate models for equipment, piping, structures, electrical systems, cable trays, HVAC and associated plant components, depending on the project scope. You will interpret engineering layouts, P&IDs, specifications and vendor information, coordinate interfaces across disciplines, perform interference checks and generate model-derived drawings and reports. If you enjoy detailed plant design, collaborative problem-solving and delivering reliable information for engineering and construction, this role offers an excellent platform to deepen your Smart 3D expertise within a respected global consultancy.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Develop and maintain intelligent, coordinated 3D plant models using Hexagon Smart 3D (SmartPlant 3D/SP3D).
  • Model equipment, piping, structures, electrical systems, cable trays, HVAC and associated plant components as required by the project.
  • Interpret P&IDs, engineering layouts, specifications, calculations, sketches, mark-ups and vendor data.
  • Apply project catalogues, specifications, rules, naming conventions and modelling procedures.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary models and resolve interfaces between engineering systems.
  • Perform interference and clash checks and support the timely resolution of identified issues.
  • Generate and check model-derived plans, sections, general arrangements, isometrics, schedules, reports and material take-offs as applicable.
  • Maintain model accuracy, engineering data, revision control and approved project configurations.
  • Support model reviews, site verification, design changes and as-built updates.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • National Diploma, Higher Certificate or equivalent qualification in Engineering Draughting, Plant Design, Building Information Modelling or a related discipline.
  • Strong hands-on proficiency in Hexagon Smart 3D, SmartPlant 3D or SP3D is essential.
  • Approximately 5 years of relevant 3D plant modelling or engineering draughting experience in power, energy, process plant or multidisciplinary EPC projects.
  • Experience in one or more Smart 3D disciplines such as equipment, piping, structural, civil, electrical, cable tray or HVAC modelling.
  • Experience producing model-derived drawings, isometrics, schedules, reports or material take-offs will be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of multidisciplinary coordination, interference checking, design review and revision control.
  • Ability to interpret engineering layouts, P&IDs, specifications and vendor information.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or MicroStation; exposure to SmartPlant Foundation or other Hexagon engineering applications will be advantageous.
  • Strong 3D visualisation, spatial coordination and technical drawing capability.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to accurate, high-quality digital deliverables.
  • Effective communication and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong planning, file-management and revision-control skills.
  • A proactive approach to resolving modelling and coordination issues.
  • The ability to work independently, take ownership and meet project deadlines.
