System Analyst – Zena Batch Support

About The Role

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented System Analyst – Zena Batch Support with 3-5 years of experience in batch scheduling, monitoring, and production support. The candidate will be responsible for supporting and validating end-to-end batch processing workflows in the Acceptance (UAT) environment, ensuring successful execution of scheduled jobs, dependencies, file transfers, scripts, and notifications before production deployment.

The ideal candidate should possess strong knowledge of enterprise job schedulers such as Zena, Control-M, or CA7, along with a solid understanding of batch processing architecture, troubleshooting, and operational support.

Key Responsibilities

Batch Operations & Monitoring

  • Monitor and support End-of-Day (EOD) batch execution processes.
  • Execute and manage batch jobs through the Zena Scheduler.
  • Validate job dependencies, schedules, calendars, and prerequisite conditions.
  • Monitor batch workflows and ensure all jobs complete successfully within defined timelines.
  • Analyse batch execution logs and identify failures or performance bottlenecks.

Scheduler Administration & Support

  • Perform end-to-end scheduler operations using Zena, Control-M, CA7, or similar enterprise scheduling tools.
  • Understand job flows, dependencies, trigger mechanisms, and execution paths.
  • Verify script execution locations, server environments, and calling mechanisms.
  • Support job scheduling changes, enhancements, and implementation of new batch workflows.

Testing & Validation

  • Execute batch testing activities in the Acceptance (UAT) environment.
  • Process sample test data and verify output results.
  • Validate file transfers, script execution, notifications, and automation workflows.
  • Generate and review output files, execution logs, and test evidence.
  • Ensure batch processes meet release readiness criteria prior to Production deployment.

Incident & Failure Management

  • Investigate batch failures and identify root causes.
  • Review scheduler logs, application logs, and system logs for troubleshooting.
  • Coordinate with application, infrastructure, and testing teams to resolve issues.
  • Document corrective actions and recovery procedures prior to job re-execution.
  • Ensure timely communication of critical incidents and execution failures.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain batch execution records and testing evidence.
  • Prepare execution status reports and support release sign-off activities.
  • Create and update operational support documents, runbooks, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Ensure compliance with operational and change management standards.

Technical Skills Required

  • Mandatory Skills
  • Experience with enterprise job schedulers such as:
  • Zena Scheduler
  • Control-M
  • CA7

Strong understanding of

  • Batch processing concepts
  • Job dependencies and workflows
  • EOD EOM/EOQ/EOY batch monitoring
  • File transfer mechanisms
  • Scheduler calendars and triggers
  • Production support processes
  •  Ability to analyse batch execution logs and troubleshoot failures.
  • Knowledge of Unix/Linux commands and shell script execution.
  • Understanding of application-to-scheduler integration.

Preferred Skills

  • SQL knowledge for validation and troubleshooting.
  • ITIL-based incident and problem management experience.
  • Exposure to release management and UAT support activities.
  • Knowledge of banking, financial services, or enterprise batch environments.

Expected Knowledge Areas

The candidate should be able to

  • Understand where a job is initiated and where the associated scripts are executed.
  • Analyse complete batch job flow and dependency chains.
  • Differentiate between various job and batch types.
  • Monitor and validate end-to-end batch executions.
  • Troubleshoot scheduler-related failures and execution issues.
  • Handle batch reruns and recovery activities following operational procedures.

 

Failure Handling & Recovery

The System Analyst should have working knowledge of

  • Identifying failed job statuses in Zena Scheduler.
  • Reviewing and analysing error logs and execution details.
  • Triggering notifications to support and testing teams.
  • Performing impact analysis and root cause identification.
  • Documenting corrective actions and recovery steps.
  • Coordinating job reruns after issue resolution.
  • Ensuring successful batch completion following recovery actions.
