Job Summary & Objectives

The Managing Clerk plays a key role in supporting the Managing Attorney in overseeing litigation support, court docketing, and rendering substantive procedural compliance for the Firm.

The Managing Clerk will be responsible for leading the Assistant Managing Clerk and Litigation Docket Specialists for the West Coast.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • In partnership with the Managing Attorney, oversee West Coast MCO team members
  • Train West Coast MCO staff to provide necessary litigation functions for the Firm
  • Oversee docketing and calendaring activities for West Coast cases, including tracking and inputting legal deadlines from incoming court orders and rules
  • Electronically file documents in California federal and state courts
  • Review legal documents for conformity to court rules
  • Provide expert procedural advice and coordinate court-related services for attorneys and staff across all departments
  • Conduct procedural research in all jurisdictions
  • Selectively bill time as authorized by the partners
  • Coordinate service of process, communicate with court clerks, and track updates on docket sheets
  • Confer with outside vendors for retrieval of legal documents and other court-related services, including obtaining apostilles for international documents
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree required

Skills and Experience

Required

  • Subject matter expertise in New York and federal rules of civil procedure
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience required
  • Advanced technical skills including strong proficiency in e-filing systems and docketing databases
  • Deep understanding of local, state, and federal civil procedure rules
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with attorneys and staff regarding complex legal procedures
  • Ability to manage multiple/simultaneous requests, assign priorities and achieve solutions within certain deadlines
  • Demonstrated team leadership, with the ability to coach and develop junior team members

Salary Information

CA Only: The estimated base salary range for this position is $125,000 to $150,000 at the time of posting.

The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. This role is exempt meaning it is not overtime pay eligible.
