About The Role
JOB SUMMARY
Provides direct support to the Breast Imaging Department including Radiologists, Technologists and patients. Primary responsibilities include direct patient care, assisting Radiologists with breast imaging procedures, and supporting Technologists. Other responsibilities include knowledge and execution of current organizational/departmental policies and procedures, breast imaging exam details, and inventory/supplies (including but not limited to medication). As a representative of the Breast Imaging Department HAIII’s are required to always maintain professionalism and facilitate interdepartmental communication.
The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations is required.

Administrative: Breast Imaging Department
- All responsibilities included in HAII
- Tracking exams APEX
- Schedules exams, reschedules exams, and changes resources of exams under the direction of Radiologists and Technologists
- Calling patients: to confirm or locate patient
- Reviewing images: checking for previous images, image transfers to PACS, etc.
- Request previous imaging from Film Library
- Preparation/Collection of consent forms and intake forms
- Provides supporting literature for patients regarding biopsies and post biopsy instructions
- Coordinates and Facilitates workflow within and between departments: notifying Breast Care Center of patient exam status, walking patient to appropriate department for appointments, retrieving patients from Breast Care Center, communicating with Radiologists about patient/exam status, communicating with Technologists about patient/exam status
- Printing specimen orders/labels
- Proficient with using the language assistance line

Clinical: Breast Imaging Department
- Use two patient identifiers to identify patients with correct exam
- Changing patients, cleaning rooms, Stocking Linens, etc.
- Set up table and tray for exams
- Transport of Patients to designated departments and Specimens to Pathology
- Assists Radiologists/Technologists in Exams and Special Procedures
- Assist with patient positioning as needed
- Cleaning patient care areas in accordance with infection control and current departmental standards
- Implementing all current regulatory standards within Breast Imaging
- Monitors patients within clinic and attends to our patients specific needs
- Communicating with patients, Radiologists and Technologists regarding patient symptoms or condition, patient/Radiologist/Technologist status, workflow status, equipment issues, room conditions, inventory, etc.
- Ability to utilize code system and security when appropriate

Work Environment
- Keeps working areas neat, orderly and clutter-free, including the hallways. Adheres to cleaning processes and puts things back where they belong. Removes and reports broken equipment and furniture.
- Picks up and disposes of any litter found throughout entire facility.
- Posts flyers and posters in designated areas only; does not post on walls, doors or windows.
- Knows where the Environment of Care Manual is kept in department; corrects or reports unsafe conditions to the appropriate departments.
- Protects the physical environment and equipment from damage and theft.
OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Equipment cleaning in accordance with Infection Control Standards
- Practicing and maintaining department safety policies including MR and Radiation Safety
- Practicing and maintaining State and other regulatory body (e.g. JCAHO) policies
- Demonstrates accountability and responsibility for department expectations and standards
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Assists other departments when necessary
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma
- Three (3) years of experience
- Read and write in the English Language
- Flexibility in scheduling, ability to rotate shifts and coverage for weekends and holidays if necessary
- This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations
- Ability to read medical reports/chart notes/exam orders
- Working knowledge of Apex/PACS/Microsoft Office
- Budgetary consciousness (use of time, supplies and productivity)
- Follows policies and procedures.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION
- Previous experience in a hospital acute care setting or imaging center
- Medical Assistant Certification
REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
- BLS Certification
