This role requires a full-time on-site presence.

Role

In this role, you will develop standards, methods and procedures to optimize the use and simplify the maintenance of our transmission and broadcasting systems/equipment. You will lead the response to system outages or major technical difficulties that fall outside routine maintenance, troubleshooting and restoration of systems or equipment. You will also deliver training to maintenance technicians in a cross-functional environment spanning networking, electronics and computer systems.

Description of duties

Develop and recommend work procedures, methods and standards to optimize the use and maintenance of transmission and broadcasting systems/equipment, and co-ordinate their implementation.
Advise team members on the use, deployment and installation of systems and equipment.
Plan, co-ordinate, assign, review and monitor project work performed by technicians under your supervision.
Develop transmission projects (including equipment, timelines, estimated hours and installation specifications) and submit them for approval.
Draw conceptual plans and schematics, and recommend new operating standards.
Respond to system outages or major technical difficulties that fall outside routine maintenance.
Identify operational needs, draft quality control procedures, determine testing frequencies and evaluate performance results.
Evaluate the performance and functionality of systems and equipment before purchase or after installation, and report your findings.
Evaluate existing equipment and produce detailed reports regarding maintenance requirements or short- and long-term replacement cycles.
Maintain workplace safety for all site personnel, contractors and visitors in compliance with operating standards.
Oversee jobsites and co-ordinate subcontractor activities.
Stay abreast of emerging technologies to proactively resolve technical challenges.
Develop and document new technical modules and subsystems to modify or adapt existing equipment.
Ensure all necessary maintenance components (including documentation and toolsets) are available when commissioning new equipment.
Design, develop and deliver training courses to maintenance technicians.
Co-ordinate, review and assess the work of trainees and report on their progress.
Design, administer and grade technical competency tests for staff and job applicants, providing clear assessments of their skills.
Design, draft and maintain technical procedures, reference manuals and training materials, ensuring they are readily available to the team.
Operate any vehicle necessary for travel or job-related tasks, clean and perform routine maintenance on vehicles, maintain the vehicle logbook and comply with all applicable regulations.
Complete the appropriate forms and documents; share all required information.
Familiarize other employees with their duties and work environment.
Carry out, as needed, all or part of the duties of another job classification within an equivalent or lower salary group, as well as other related duties.

What You Bring

Community college diploma (DSC) in electronics technology (telecommunications or computer systems option) or a related field.
Seven years' experience required, as the incumbent serves as the sole subject matter expert in remote areas without local access to a master maintenance technician.
Advanced proficiency in spoken and written French.
Working knowledge of English an asset.
