About The Role

Purpose

Develops and implements optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards with special expertise in welding. Recommends and implements improvements to production processes, methods and controls. Responsible for Engineering Changes. Coordinates manufacturing launch for new and revised products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead new welding development research.
  • Troubleshoot welding issues both internally and with suppliers.
  • Develop and specify welding standards and best practices.
  • Improve welding equipment OEE.
  • Responsible for Engineering Changes.
  • Develops welding techniques, procedures, and application of welding equipment to problems involving fabrication of metals, utilizing knowledge of production specifications, properties and characteristics of metals and metal alloys, and engineering principles.
  • Prepares technical reports as result of research and development and preventive maintenance investigations.
  • Establishes welding procedures to guide production and welding personnel relating to specification restrictions, material processes, pre and post-heating requirements which involve use of complex alloys, unusual fabrication methods, welding of critical joints, and complex post heating requirements.
  • Troubleshooting of processes and equipment.
  • Perform experimental welding to evaluate new equipment, techniques, and materials.
  • Develop, monitor and report production measurables and productivity incentive plans.
  • Support and trouble shoot 8D / Problem resolution methods.
  • Responsible for IATF16949 documentation requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Weld Engineering Technology, a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
  • 5 plus years of welding experience in an automotive manufacturing environment.

  • Quality control and APQP processes, control plans and FMEA’s.
  • Computer Proficiency (MS Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Advanced knowledge of safety requirements
  • CAD experience, blueprint reading and GD&T
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma Concepts
  • Familiarity with automotive specifications
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of personnel including customers & suppliers
