About The Role

The Permanent Unit Technician is responsible for  monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting of SGS MPR Services' Permanent Units in a remote setting. This position ensures permanent unit equipment continues to operate safely, efficiently, and within client specifications through continuous monitoring, preventive maintenance activities, and process optimization. The Permanent Unit Technician supports maintenance activities, responds to operational issues, and contributes to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance equipment reliability and performance.

The Permanent Unit Technician must be willing and able to travel to client jobsites throughout the United States and internationally. The position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a TWIC card and valid passport, maintain a current driver's license, and successfully pass client-required drug and alcohol and background screenings.

  • Equipment Operations
  • Operate and monitor Permanent Unit equipment in accordance with established operating procedures.
  • Perform routine equipment inspections to verify safe and efficient operation.
  • Start up, shut down, and adjust equipment as required to meet operational and client requirements.
  • Generate daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports for internal and client distribution.
  • Promote a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Process Monitoring
  • Collect and monitor real-time process data from field instrumentation and control systems.
  • Observe and record key operating parameters, including temperature, pressure, flow rates, levels.
  • Identify abnormal operating conditions and take appropriate corrective actions within established procedures.
  • Escalate equipment or process issues to Permanent Unit manager when necessary.
  • Control Systems
  • Utilize Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), or other process control systems to monitor and operate equipment.
  • Maintain process variables within established operating limits to achieve client performance objectives.
  • Verify the proper operation of instrumentation and control devices.
  • Maintenance Support
  • Assist with preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities on Permanent Unit equipment.
  • Perform routine inspections, minor repairs, equipment adjustments, and component replacements as assigned.
  • Support troubleshooting efforts involving mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and control system issues.
  • Coordinate with maintenance personnel during equipment outages and repairs.
  • Alarms and Troubleshooting
  • Monitor system alarms and respond promptly to abnormal operating conditions.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues and assist in determining root causes of equipment or process failures.
  • Travel to client locations as required to support emergency equipment response and operational needs.
  • Documentation and Reporting
  • Maintain accurate operating logs, maintenance records, inspection reports, and corrective action documentation.
  • Document equipment performance, operational deviations, maintenance activities, and significant events.
  • Prepare reports supporting client compliance, audits, and performance reviews.
  • Continuous Improvement
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives that enhance safety, reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Assist in evaluating equipment performance trends and recommending operational improvements.
  • Apply lessons learned and best practices to improve Permanent Unit operations and maintenance activities.
  • Administrative Duties
  • Maintain accurate operational, maintenance, and inspection records in accordance with company and client requirements.
  • Prepare and distribute daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports.
  • Enter equipment operating data, maintenance activities, inventory transactions into company databases and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Maintain records of equipment calibrations, inspections, certifications, and preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Assist with tracking parts, consumables, and maintenance inventory, notifying management when replenishment is needed.
  • Coordinate travel arrangements required documentation for client site assignments as directed.
  • Maintain organized electronic and hard-copy files of operating procedures, safety documentation, and client records.
  • Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and operational planning meetings, documenting attendance and action items as assigned.
  • Communicate equipment status, maintenance activities, and operational issues with management, maintenance personnel, and clients in a timely and professional manner.
  • Perform other administrative and operational support duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or GED is required. Refinery processes, or a related field; advanced degree preferred. (Required)
  • Over (3) years of experience in process control, monitoring, or a similar role within an industrial setting. (Required)
  • Strong understanding of process control principles, instrumentation, and automation technologies. (Required)
  • Ability to read and interpret piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), equipment manuals, and technical documentation. (Required)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. (Required)
