Cancer Registry- Quality Assurance Specialist
Location: Lisle
Clinic Hours: Monday through Friday 8:00am-4:30pm
PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of cancer registry data in compliance with regulatory standards, accreditation requirements, and internal quality benchmarks. This role focuses on data validation, quality control, and continuous improvement initiatives to support high-quality cancer surveillance and reporting. The QA Specialist will work closely with registry staff and leadership to identify trends, provide feedback, and develop training to enhance data integrity.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct quality reviews of abstracted cases to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance per regulatory guidelines.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures related to abstracting, data validation, and quality control.
- Provide ongoing education, mentorship, and feedback to abstractors on quality related issues and best practices.
- Develop and distribute monthly quality bulletins, abstracting tips, and case scenario exercises to enhance learning opportunities.
- Assist in the orientation of new cancer registry staff to ensure competency in abstracting and quality standards.
M INIMUM E DUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Associates degree and ODS Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) credential required.
- 5 years of experience as a registry abstractor required.
- RHIT or RHIA preferred.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Experience in cancer registry operations, abstracting, and coding required.
- Strong knowledge of AJCC Staging, CoC Standards, SEER Guidelines, and other cancer coding systems (ICD O-3, STORE, NAACCR).
- Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems and cancer registry software.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet productivity and quality standards.
- Excellent written and verbal skills, with the ability to identify data trends and quality issues.
- Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to ensure data accuracy
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite for reporting and training purposes.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Ability to build effective working relationships and treat colleagues with professionalism and respect.
The compensation for this role includes a base pay range of $25.94-38.91, with the actual pay determined by factors such as skills, experience, education, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. Additional compensation may be available through shift differentials, bonuses, and other incentives. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package.
