About The Role

Director of Marketing (APAC) Position summary: This role is part of the Business Unit Marketing team, which acts as the strategic consultant to, and primary bridge between, practice group leadership and the broader Marketing & Client Development organization. This team translates commercial objectives and competitive insight into marketing and client development plans. They work across Marketing & Client Development to activate these plans, offering the appropriate level of strategic and tactical support tailored to the needs of each business unit. Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Position responsibilities

  • Strategic Business Advisement: Serve as the primary marketing advisor to MCD, Practice Group and Market Leaders, aligning practice-specific business goals with the firm’s overarching growth strategies.
  • Annual Marketing Planning: Own the development and stewardship of a comprehensive, data-driven marketing plan for the Business Unit, rooted in a deep understanding of target buyers and competitive positioning.
  • Stakeholder & Enabler Orchestration: Act as the strategic lead for the "front door," managing the interface between practice leadership and the enabling verticals (ST&G) to prioritize high-value initiatives.
  • Market Opportunity Identification: Lead the effort to identify whitespace opportunities and marketplace trends, leveraging competitive intelligence to refine practice-level positioning.
  • Performance & Impact Stewardship: Partner with Insights & Optimization to define and review high-value KPIs, translating performance data into strategic pivots for the practice group.
  • Brand & Narrative Alignment: Ensure the BU’s specific narrative is a high-fidelity extension of the global brand, tailored to the unique needs and nuances of the practice's industry focus.
  • Multidisciplinary Integration: Drive cross-functional collaboration across MCD by uniting teams to deliver seamless, omnichannel experiences that amplify the firm’s market presence and drive revenue growth.
  • Resource Advocacy: Manage expectations and advocate for the necessary resource allocation from enabling functions to ensure the BU’s marketing plan is executed to the highest standard.
  • Team Leadership & Mentorship: Direct and coach a high-performing BU marketing team, fostering a culture of proactive strategic consulting and client-service excellence.
  • People Leader:
  • Serve as supervisor and mentor to direct reports
  • Ensure direct reports’ adherence with assigned work hours and monitor for compliance with all firm and department policies. Manage staffing coverage, review and process time logs/time off requests
  • Support business professional development and continued educational opportunities
  • In collaboration with immediate supervisor and central HR, participate in hiring, performance appraisals, counseling, termination and other employee lifecycle events
  • All other duties as assigned or required

Skills and experience

Required

  • After new hire orientation, exhibit proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applications
  • Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours, as required
  • Ability to travel, as required
  • 10+ years of directly relevant exempt-level experience (e.g., marketing or business development), with 5+ years of management experience in relevant roles
  • Prior professional services industry experience and/or B2B marketing experience
  • Must be fluent in Mandarin (reading/writing/speaking)
  • Proven track record of effective leadership
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

Preferred

  • Prior legal industry experience
