PRN Pharmacist

The START Center for Cancer Care San Antonio, TX

The START Center for Cancer Care is seeking a highly skilled and patient-focused PRN Pharmacist to support our oncology Infusion Center and Retail Pharmacy on an as-needed basis. This position is ideal for a licensed pharmacist with oncology, sterile compounding, or infusion pharmacy experience who enjoys working in a collaborative healthcare environment.

This PRN role provides coverage as needed and is not benefit eligible .

Position Summary

The PRN Pharmacist is responsible for medication order verification, dispensing, documentation, and pharmaceutical care services for oncology and supportive care patients. This role oversees the safe preparation and dispensing of medications, provides drug information to providers and patients, and ensures compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and quality standards. The pharmacist may also provide support within the START Retail Pharmacy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Verify medication orders, including dosage calculations and treatment plan accuracy.
  • Supervise the preparation and dispensing of chemotherapy, supportive care medications, and other prescribed therapies.
  • Oversee pharmacy technicians involved in medication preparation and dispensing activities.
  • Build and maintain chemotherapy treatment regimens within the electronic medical record system.
  • Monitor medication inventory and assist with inventory management and utilization tracking.
  • Ensure compliance with all pharmacy regulations, USP standards, and quality assurance requirements.
  • Provide timely and accurate drug information to physicians, nursing staff, and patients.
  • Support safe medication practices and maintain accurate pharmacy documentation.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold all legal, ethical, and professional standards.
  • Participate in continuing education and maintain all required licenses and certifications.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy.
  • Current, active Texas Pharmacist license in good standing.
  • One of the following: • At least one year of sterile IV admixture experience. • Knowledge of non-sterile compounding, immunizations, and medication therapy management (MTM). • Completion of an ASHP-accredited Pharmacy Residency Program. • Completion of an Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE). • Equivalent experience as approved by pharmacy leadership.

Preferred

  • Oncology, infusion, specialty, or retail pharmacy experience.
  • Experience supervising or training pharmacy technicians.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
  • Experience with electronic medical records and pharmacy management systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Schedule

  • PRN / As Needed
  • Weekday coverage based on department needs
  • No guaranteed hours
  • Not eligible for company benefits
