About The Role
- Job Title: Administrative Assistant for the Department of Politics and Economics, Department of Philosophy
- Job Status: Part time, .50 FTE (academic schedule)
- This position performs administrative support to the department Chairs as well as clerical support and office management for the departments.
- ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Assist the Chair with key administrative tasks such as managing departmental budgets, creating course schedules, revising curricula, facilitating the awarding of scholarships, recruiting and onboarding regular and contingent faculty, collecting and maintaining program and assessment data, and creating annual reports.
- Maintain calendars and schedules and manage correspondence relating to the administrative tasks listed above.
3.Perform general office management (supply ordering and organizing, copier maintenance, etc.).
- Hire and supervise student workers in consultation with chairs and faculty as appropriate.
- Design and produce web and print outward-facing materials or delegate these tasks to a student worker.
- Provide reception support by warmly greeting visitors and receiving and responding to inquiries.
Other Duties
- Provide administrative support to department faculty.
- Supervise updates to the department website and social media accounts.
- Maintain departmental bulletin boards and displays.
- Maintain the Jellema reading room and library.
- Proctor exams.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position may supervise one or more student office assistants.
WORK SCHEDULE
While the position is a .5 FTE, ideally the assistant would work approximately 27 hours/week during the school year and be off during the summer. Exact hours and times are somewhat flexible.
