The Opportunity

WSP is seeking a Senior Consultant - Commissioning for our New York office to lead technically complex commissioning assignments for new and existing buildings. The successful candidate will manage project delivery, provide technical oversight, maintain strong client relationships, and support the continued growth of the New York Commissioning team.

The role encompasses new building commissioning, retro-commissioning, recommissioning, and ongoing commissioning, as well as energy audits, building performance evaluations, functional performance testing, sustainability certification support, and measurement and verification activities.

Your Impact

  • Lead commissioning for new and existing building projects in accordance with ASHRAE guidelines, contract requirements, and applicable industry standards.
  • Manage project delivery from design through occupancy, including design reviews, field observations, functional performance testing, system verification, issue resolution, and closeout.
  • Coordinate commissioning plans, test procedures, issue logs, schedules, meeting documentation, and final reports across all project phases.
  • Provide technical oversight for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, lighting, fire alarm, security, controls, renewable energy, and specialty building systems.
  • Collaborate with owners, design teams, contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders to resolve issues and achieve project objectives.
  • Lead project meetings, communicate risks and priorities, maintain quality control, and deliver accurate work on schedule.
  • Support proposals, client relationship management, business development, and strategic growth initiatives for the New York Commissioning team.
  • Travel up to 10% to support project and client needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or architectural engineering; construction management; or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Five to seven years of experience in building commissioning, building systems, or a closely related discipline.
  • Working knowledge of commissioning principles, ASHRAE guidelines, functional performance testing, and building system operation.
  • Technical proficiency in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, controls, and related building systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and communicate clearly with clients and project stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer licensure or a recognized commissioning or energy certification, such as BCxP, CxA, CBCP, or CEM.
  • LEED accreditation and experience delivering whole-building or total facilities commissioning.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $107,500 - $146,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
