  • Salary Range: Hourly from $20.87 to $25.88; Annually from $43,577 to $54,037

THE POSITION AND THE DEPARTMENT

The General Maintenance Worker provides custodial services for Normandale Community College’s buildings and grounds. Buildings are assigned on a yearly rotation schedule but the actual work site is the entire campus. This position plays an important role in making Normandale a clean, welcoming, and safe environment for students, employees, and the community. Hours may vary, depending on the role and special projects. Most positions are Monday-Friday, with occasional Saturdays.

This position will actively advance the college’s strategic goals, including to achieve equity in educational outcomes and to support a culturally responsive and service-oriented culture, through individual and departmental efforts.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum

  • Knowledge of different types of flooring/floor covering, sufficient to determine proper methods of cleaning and maintenance, and appropriate materials, agents, and equipment to use
  • Knowledge of chemical cleaning agents such as ammonia, bleaches, scouring agents and soaps, sufficient to appropriately select the agent(s), handle, apply and dispose of safely
  • Knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance sufficient to use effectively, operate safely and to make minor repairs
  • Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions
  • Ability to perform assigned tasks with limited work direction
  • Ability to keep simple records
  • Ability to perform a variety of physical tasks, lift and carry materials weighing 25 pounds and team lift 40-60 pounds (and occasionally more)
  • Ability to work above ground level, such as, on ladders and scaffolding
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions

Preferred

  • Six months or more of work experience in Higher Education or a similar setting
  • Experience maintaining a work environment that respects and values differences and diversity
  • Ability to effectively communicate with students, staff, faculty, managers and others
  • Experience providing excellent customer service
