We are seeking a Senior Substation Engineer to design new power substations and upgrade existing facilities from 12kV to 500kV. You will be responsible for utilizing accepted practices and standards to ensure that all designs meet the highest level of quality and safety. This is an on-site supervisory role with direct reports, including engineers and designers. You will be reporting to our Grand Rapids, MI office.
What You'll Do
- Develop project plans, including project scope of work and WBS (Work Breakdown Structure) for complex multi-discipline substation Engineering projects and EPC projects
- Manage Substation project execution, including project scope, schedule, budget, and project resources, including external vendors, consultants, and contractors
- Effectively track and stabilize projects, implement solutions to obstacles, and ensure client goals are achieved
- Communication and Systems Studies Engineer focus
- Attend client meetings and communicate concerns and changes with the client to ensure a positive relationship and growth opportunities
- Prepare and review preliminary designs
- Prepare proposals, including budgetary estimates
- Lead the development of plans, specifications, studies, estimates, material lists, and other deliverables
- Ensure team adherence to QA/QC program
Develop new or modify existing
- Electrical layout/plan of substation equipment and structures
- Substation foundation layout/plan drawings
- Section/elevation views from layout/plan drawings
- Conduit layout/plan drawings
- Substation grounding layout/plan drawings
- Control building layout/plan and section/elevation drawings
Lead, mentor, and help grow a team of engineers and designers
- Manage day-to-day activities for your team
- Set goals and expectations for each team member
- Assist in annual performance reviews
- Assist in recruiting efforts - posting job requisitions and participating in interviews
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
- 8+ years of direct substation physical and electrical engineering experience
- Professional Engineering license in MI or the ability to obtain licensure within 3 months
- Solid understanding and ability to use design software such as MicroStation and AutoCAD
- Understands relay settings and SCADA, DFR, RTU architecture and is able to lead substation upgrade projects with staff
- Proficient with Windows-based software such as Word and Excel, which are frequently used to develop project deliverables
- Strong communication skills with customer presentations and technical knowledge of risks and concerns
- Ability to learn and effectively utilize new design software programs including Milsoft, ETAP, and SKM
- Ability to work in a team environment with others including, but not limited to, Project Managers, Engineers, Designers, and drafters in multi-discipline groups
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and work product quality
Salary Range
At Verdantas, we offer comprehensive benefits packages for our employees. Actual salary is based on the circumstances of each position and candidate, such as geographic location, skills, and certifications. We recognize and reward exceptional performance and strive to ensure fair compensation across all roles and departments within the company. The salary range for this position is $120,000 - $180,000 (negotiable based on the criteria presented above).
