About The Role

Howmet Fastening Systems is looking for a CNC Operator in our Torrance, CA location. HFS is a business unit of Howmet Aerospace, headquartered in Torrance, California. Summary

Operates single or multi-spindle CNC drilling machines to perform drilling, reaming, boring, tapping, grooving, slotting, and related machining operations. Follows established procedures and work instructions, inspects completed work to ensure conformance with specifications, and reports equipment malfunctions or issues to the appropriate personnel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • CNC Operation: Set up and operate CNC equipment to produce parts according to engineering drawings, specifications, work instructions, and quality standards.
  • Blueprint Reading & Inspection: Read and interpret blueprints and use precision measuring instruments to perform first-piece and in-process inspections.
  • Machine Setup: Perform entry-level setups, including tooling, fixtures, offsets, and applicable speeds and feeds.
  • Quality & SPC: Perform required SPC measurements and calculations and complete production and quality documentation.
  • Tooling & Maintenance: Maintain tooling and gauges and perform routine machine inspections, preventative maintenance, and Autonomous Maintenance activities.
  • Production Support: Stage materials, prepare tooling, maintain machine readiness, and communicate production, quality, or equipment issues to the Team Leader or Supervisor.
  • Continuous Improvement & 5S: Participate in continuous improvement activities, set up reduction, 5S, and housekeeping to improve safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Safety: Follow all EHS policies and procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and maintain a safe and orderly work environment.
  • Other Duties: Performs other tasks of equal or lesser skill as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • 1+ years of operating machinery or CNC Certificate preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, manufacturing drawings, and work instructions in English.
  • Basic shop math skills, including algebra; SPC knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments and gauges, including micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, comparators, and other applicable gauges.
  • Basic knowledge of CNC machining, cutting tools, tool offsets, and machine setup; ability to learn CNC lathe setup and operate multiple machines, where applicable.
  • Understanding of 5S, preventative maintenance, first-piece verification, and applicable quality processes.
  • Ability to obtain and perform Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) authorization.
  • Ability to lift to 30 pounds regularly.
  • Follows all safety procedures and properly uses required equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

  • Must be able to lift/move 30 lbs. (may not exceed per EHS policies)
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Reaching above and below, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and bending.
  • Need to be able to wear safety steel toe shoes and walk around shop floor environment as needed.
  • Be able to remove dangling jewelry for shop floor assigned tasks, and wear hearing protection as needed.
