Overview

Top European Bank with a strong and growing U.S. presence is seeking a highly skilled Corporate Credit Analyst with experience a corporate banking experience.

This position is for an Associate Lead, with technical expertise and demonstrated credit underwriting capabilities. Candidates are expected to possess approximately 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in corporate banking, credit risk, leveraged finance, commercial banking, corporate finance, or a related credit underwriting function.

As a Corporate Credit Underwriter, the candidate will play a crucial role in assessing the creditworthiness of corporate clients seeking financing in a number of transactions spanning from cash flow loans to structured finance to derivatives. This role requires a strong understanding of financial analysis and risk assessment within a corporate lending context, spanning various sectors.

The objective of this position is to drive material and visible improvement in Credit Risk Management’s (CRM) ability to effectively risk underwrite transactions and manage an existing client portfolio, consistent with industry best practices. The candidate is expected to contribute to leading the internal execution and risk management process within CRM group.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed financial analysis, including review of financial statements, projections, cash flow forecasts, and stress scenarios, to assess borrower credit quality and transaction risks.
  • Review legal documentation, including loan agreements, trade finance instruments, and other transaction documents, identifying key credit, structural, and legal risks for escalation and discussion with senior team members.
  • Assist in evaluating transaction structures, credit terms, collateral packages, covenant frameworks, and other risk mitigants to ensure consistency with the bank's credit policies and risk appetite.
  • Partner with relationship managers, product teams, legal counsel, and other stakeholders to support transaction analysis, due diligence, and execution.
  • Monitor assigned portfolio exposures, including financial performance, covenant compliance, industry developments, and emerging credit risks.
  • Identify potential credit concerns and early warning indicators and recommend appropriate actions to senior underwriters and management.
  • Support periodic reviews, renewals, amendments, and waivers of existing credit facilities.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of industry trends, market developments, and regulatory requirements impacting assigned borrowers and sectors.
  • Contribute to the enhancement of underwriting practices, portfolio monitoring processes, and risk management frameworks through active participation in departmental initiatives.

Qualifications

  • 5–7 years of progressive experience in credit risk management, with a strong focus on corporate, structured, and leveraged finance within a corporate or commercial banking environment.
  • Strong understanding of credit underwriting, financial analysis, and risk assessment across different structures and products.
  • Strong working knowledge of loan documentation, trade finance instruments, and ISDA agreements.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and make sound risk decisions in high-value, complex transactions.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate risk positions clearly to senior stakeholders and credit committees.
  • Strong understanding of corporate banking policies, procedures, governance frameworks, and approval processes, including U.S. lending regulations.
  • Track record of building effective relationships with internal partners, peers, and external stakeholders to deliver timely, high-quality credit decisions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; MBA preferred but not required.

With respect to this position in our New York Office, the expected base salary ranges from $140,000 to $155,000. It is not typical for offers to be made at or near the top of the range. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
