The Space Sector of Moog’s Space and Defense Group (SDG) designs and manufactures systems to survive the harsh environments of space travel. Our Space Vehicles team is growing and is looking for a Sr. Software Engineer to support the development of innovative flight and embedded systems for space applications.

Our team comprises a cross-disciplinary group of industry veterans and early-career talent. We develop satellite buses, orbital maneuvering vehicles (OMVs), space tugs, and related systems. The team values collaboration, technical excellence, and mentorship.

This position will work out of Arvada, CO and operates on a 9/80 hybrid work schedule. The office sits near the Front Range foothills, about 10 minutes from Golden and Arvada and an easy commute from much of the Denver metro area.

As a Sr. Software Engineer, you will

  • Design, implement, and verify real-time embedded flight software for spacecraft buses, OMVs, and other space vehicles using C/C++ and Python.
  • Act as a technical lead on projects: drive architecture and design decisions, define software interfaces, and lead design reviews.
  • Mentor and coach junior and mid-level engineers, helping grow team capability and best practices.
  • Develop and maintain software running on VxWorks and Linux targets; work across different toolchains and cross-compilation environments.
  • Build and maintain software simulators and automated test frameworks for system integration and regression testing.
  • Perform and document unit, integration, and system-level testing; support continuous integration and test automation efforts.
  • Troubleshoot and debug software in close integration with spacecraft hardware and system engineering teams.
  • Review and provide constructive feedback on software requirements, specifications, and code.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary subject-matter experts (hardware, avionics, guidance/navigation/control, systems) in an Agile environment.
  • Move between programs as priorities require.

To be considered for the Sr. Software Engineer role, here's what you'll typically need to bring with you

  • BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years’ professional software development experience, including embedded systems.
  • 8+ years of relevant professional experience preferred
  • Must have the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance
  • Demonstrated experience programming in C/C++ or similar embedded languages
  • Proficiency in Python for tools, test automation, or scripting.
  • Experience with VxWorks (Wind River), Greenhills or equivalent real-time OS; strong familiarity with real-time concepts and deterministic scheduling.
  • Experience developing for and debugging on Linux hosts and targets.
  • Strong understanding of computer architecture, OS fundamentals, networking protocols, and inter-process communication.
  • Proven ability to lead technical efforts and mentor teammates; strong written and verbal communication skills.

It would be great if you also had

  • Experience with avionics/spacecraft flight software architectures and standards.
  • Familiarity with cross-compilation toolchains, BSPs, device drivers, and hardware bring-up.
  • Experience with CI/CD, automated test frameworks, and version control workflows (Git).
  • Knowledge of telemetry, command & control, and spacecraft bus subsystems.
  • Experience writing software requirements and participating in system-level trades.

Salary Range Transparency

Arvada, CO $135,000.00–$175,000.00 Annually

Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range(s) listed is just one component of Moog's total compensation package for employees.
