The Collins Aerospace Strategic Defense Solutions group is seeking a highly motivated, Mechanical Engineer Co-op to join and work with our team in Sterling, VA! Our Mechanical Engineers participate in the development, modification, integration, and testing of cutting-edge aircraft and ground vehicle training simulators for military and commercial applications. Our devices range in complexity from simple desktop trainers to high-fidelity full flight training systems. You will work on both clean-sheet and design reuse projects, creating mechanical equipment, electronics cabinets, and custom support structures and enclosures.

What You Will Do

Mechanical design/layout of simulator components, structures and facilities using 3D CAD software modeling techniques
Creating and reviewing 2D CAD drawings applying appropriate dimensioning and tolerancing standards
Working closely with other engineering disciplines (e.g. electrical, software and systems engineering) to ensure the mechanical design is appropriate for the project/product design approach
What You Will Learn
Anticipated experience gained includes mechanical design, analysis, dimensioning and tolerancing methods for manufacture/assembly, hands on system integration/assembly, and team communication and collaboration.

Qualifications You Must Have

Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.
Experience or coursework utilizing 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) software
Experience Utilizing MS office (Word & excel)
Experienced in the design, manufacture, and integration of mechanical hardware of moderate complexity

Qualifications We Prefer

Previous RTX internship experience is desirable.
Familiarity with SOLIDWORKS computer aided design (CAD) modeling software
Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA) software.
