Automation Engineer, Intern (Summer 2027)

The Opportunity

As an Automation Engineering Intern , you will work alongside our engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to support automation and controls projects at MAPEI’s West Chicago manufacturing facility . You will gain hands-on experience with industrial equipment, control systems, troubleshooting, and continuous-improvement initiatives in a live manufacturing environment. This experience may lead to future opportunities in automation, controls, or manufacturing engineering.

• Support automation and controls projects for manufacturing equipment and processes.
• Assist with PLC, HMI, sensor, instrumentation, and control-system activities.
• Help troubleshoot equipment and identify opportunities to improve reliability.
• Collect and analyze equipment, process, and automation-performance data.
• Support system testing, validation, documentation, and implementation.
• Assist with technical drawings, reports, procedures, and project deliverables.

The Program Details

• Full-time schedule (40 hours per week)
• Internship duration: May–August 2027 (12 weeks)
• Practical, hands-on learning in a live manufacturing environment
• Host location: West Chicago, IL

• Actively pursuing a bachelor’s/graduate degree in Automation, Electrical,

Controls Engineering, or a related technical field (juniors/seniors preferred).
