About The Role

JOB SUMMARY

The Director, Shopper Marketing leads the national shopper marketing strategy and team, translating brand, channel, customer and shopper insights into programs that drive conversion, strengthen brand loyalty and deliver profitable growth. As a key commercial leader, this role connects Sales and Marketing priorities, shapes short- and long-term plans, and ensures strong execution across in-store and digital commerce environments. The Director also builds organizational capability by coaching the team, advancing measurement of commercial return on investment, and championing best-in-class shopper practices informed by consumer insights. This position is based out of our Mississauga head office (hybrid work model 3/days per week in office and reports to the Vice-President of Marketing.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

STRATEGY AND COMMERCIAL LEADERSHIP

  • Own and evolve the national shopper marketing vision, strategy and operating model, aligned with brand, channel, customer and commercial priorities.
  • Translate consumer, category, shopper and customer insights into scalable national platforms and customer-ready solutions.
  • Serve as the connective lead between Sales and Marketing, balancing enterprise priorities with regional and customer needs.
  • Champion the evolution of omnichannel shopper marketing across internal teams and customer partnerships.
  • Identify and embed best practices that continually raise the standard of in-store and online execution.

EXECUTION, INVESTMENT AND ROI

  • Lead the planning and stewardship of the national shopper marketing budget, ensuring disciplined allocation against the highest-value opportunities.
  • Establish clear objectives, measurement plans and post-program evaluation to demonstrate return by region, customer, channel and/or brand.
  • Drive stronger effectiveness through zero-based budgeting, portfolio prioritization, economies of scale and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure programs are relevant, executable and designed to convert shoppers at the point of decision, both in store and online.
  • Partner with Sales, Marketing, Finance and agency/vendor teams to deliver high-quality work on time and within budget.

TEAM LEADERSHIP

  • Lead, coach and develop a national team of Shopper Marketing Managers and Associates, creating clarity, accountability and strong cross-regional alignment.
  • Build a high-performing culture focused on value creation, commercial impact, collaboration and continuous learning.
  • Set clear priorities and ways of working that enable the team to shift from responsive service delivery to proactive strategic partnership.
  • Develop team capability in insight translation, planning, digital commerce, measurement, financial stewardship and stakeholder influence.

INTEGRATED PLANNING & GOVERNANCE

  • Lead the shopper marketing contribution to the commercial planning process, from annual strategy through execution and performance review. This includes disciplined budget management.
  • Create integrated planning rhythms, decision gates and clear accountabilities across Sales, Marketing and cross-functional partners.
  • Act as the central point of coordination for customer requirements, regional input, key deadlines, brand priorities and enterprise big bets.
  • Identify risks, dependencies and trade-offs early, enabling timely decisions and effective resource deployment.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • University degree in business, marketing, commerce or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 6-8 years experience in shopper marketing, customer marketing, brand marketing, sales or a related commercial discipline within consumer packaged goods; leadership experience required.
  • Alcohol beverage experience in Canada in the shopper marketing / trade marketing / brand marketing disciplines - preferred
  • Demonstrates success in developing and executing national strategies across multiple customers, channels and regions.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen, including budget stewardship, investment prioritization and ROI measurement.
  • Experience translating consumer, category and shopper insights into actionable programs that drive conversion and growth.
  • Working knowledge of in-store, e-commerce and omnichannel shopper marketing practices.
  • Proven ability to influence senior leaders and build alignment across Sales, Marketing, Finance and external partners.
  • Experience leading, coaching and developing high-performing teams through change.

Compensation: Budgeted Range – $126,111 - $173,403 The budgeted range takes into account several factors and qualifications that are considered in making compensation decisions including experience, education, training, licenses, certifications, and other business and organizational requirements. Base pay is only one component of the total rewards offering at Arterra.
