About The Role

Diagnose, repair, inspect and maintain motorized and mechanical equipment related to construction, highway maintenance, grounds, and automotive equipment of all types and in varied locations. Perform special duties as assigned.

How you will contribute

  • Diagnosis and Repair : Diagnose vehicle, equipment or asset failures using electronic testing equipment, service and equipment repair manuals and on-line resources. Recommend outsourcing for major repairs when needed.
  • Emergency Operations : Prepare equipment for emergency operations. Make equipment repairs to reduce downtime during emergency operations to include on-the-road repairs.
  • Information Processing and Paperwork : Prepare, process, and maintain required maintenance and repair documentation. Generate, complete and close-out work orders in computer system. Perform time and leave entry. Prepare parts requests. Complete paperwork for warranty inspections and repairs.
  • Perform Repair Work : Perform repairs and overhauls to all types of automobiles, equipment, and tools to include engines, transmissions, driveline components, electrical and computer systems, fuel injection systems, air conditioning, heating and ventilation systems, hydraulic systems, pneumatic components and air brakes.
  • Perform duties as assigned. :
  • Preventative Maintenance : Perform preventive maintenance on vehicles, equipment, or assets according to PM schedule and guidelines. Make repairs as needed when deficiencies are found or recommend outsourcing.
  • Virginia State Inspections : Perform safety inspections under the guidelines of the Virginia State Police Inspection program for vehicles and equipment.
  • Welding Repair and Fabrication : Design, fabricate, modify, and weld components to repair, rebuild, or replace parts.

  • Ability to independently perform major repairs and maintenance on a variety of diesel and gasoline trucks and equipment.
  • Ability to operate various types of light, medium and heavy-duty trucks, equipment, and tools in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic math calculations.
  • Knowledge of general shop procedures.
  • Skill in the use of computers.
  • Skill in the use of hand and power tools and advanced electronic and computerized diagnostic equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Ability to operate various types of light, medium and heavy-duty trucks, equipment, and tools in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
  • Ability to read and comprehend service and equipment repair manuals, gauges, and testing devices.
  • Ability to repair and maintain a variety of automotive and construction equipment.
  • Knowledge of cutting, welding and fabrication operations.
  • Knowledge of the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of automotive, construction and maintenance equipment.
  • Possession of CDL and DOT medical card and ability to maintain thereafter. Must comply with DOT and VDOT policies and standards when operating CDL equipment
  • Possession of and ability to maintain a Virginia State Inspection License.
  • Safety Shoes required.
  • Skill in the use of computers, hand and power tools and advanced electronic and computerized diagnostic equipment.

Additional Considerations

  • A combination of training, experience, or education in Automotive Repair, Equipment Repair, or related field desired.
  • ASE Certifications.
  • Experience repairing and maintaining a variety of automotive and construction equipment.
  • Experience using cutting and welding equipment.
