Dealer School: Table Games Training Program

Hard Rock Ottawa is helping Ottawa grow a new skillset

Interested in learning a new skill in a dynamic and exciting industry? Hard Rock Ottawa's Dealer School is a comprehensive, no-cost training program designed to teach participants the fundamentals of dealing with popular casino table games.

Participants will receive hands-on instruction in

  • Blackjack
  • Ultimate Texas Hold'em
  • Mississippi Stud
  • High Card Flush
  • Free Bet Blackjack
  • Additional table game procedures and player service techniques

This training program is provided at no cost to eligible participants and is designed to develop transferable table games skills that may support future career opportunities within the gaming industry.

Upcoming Open House: Tuesday September 29th, details around time will be released closer to the event.

To participate in Dealer School, individuals must

  • Be at least 19 years of age.
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform basic mental math and successfully complete a math assessment.
  • Successfully complete a brief suitability interview.
  • Be available to attend the full six-week training program (40 hours per week for six consecutive weeks beginning October 13th 2026).

Program Graduation Requirements

To successfully complete Dealer School, participants must

  • Maintain satisfactory attendance throughout the training program.
  • Successfully complete written assessments.
  • Demonstrate proficiency through practical table game evaluations and auditions.

Participant Profile

Successful participants typically demonstrate

  • Strong guest service and interpersonal skills.
  • Professionalism, integrity, and sound judgment.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills in English.
  • French language skills are considered an asset.
  • The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

Future Opportunities

Graduates who successfully complete the Dealer School program may be considered for future Table Games Dealer opportunities at Hard Rock Ottawa, subject to operational requirements and the successful completion of all applicable employment and regulatory requirements, including registration as a Category 2 Gaming Assistant with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).

Employment opportunities, if available, are not guaranteed and remain subject to business needs, candidate suitability, and regulatory approval.

Working Environment

Table Games Dealers work in a highly regulated entertainment environment and may be required to

  • Stand for extended periods.
  • Handle gaming equipment and perform repetitive hand movements.
  • Interact with guests in a fast-paced environment.
  • Work in areas with elevated noise levels.
  • Occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.

Compensation Information

Individuals who successfully complete the program and are subsequently hired as Table Games Dealers at Hard Rock Ottawa may be eligible for a sign-on bonus. With tips included, dealers in the Ottawa area typically earn approximately $30 to $35 per hour
