About The Role
Essential Job Duties
- Staff and workload management: Makes all daily work assignments for Respiratory Care staff and assures completion of assignments and department work calendars.
- Evaluates staffing resources on shift and makes adjustments using overtime or time off as appropriate.
- Serves as a consultant to physicians, nurses and department staff on matters of the clinical practice of Respiratory Care. Evaluates physician's orders upon request of staff and makes suggestions for changes in care plans if appropriate.
- Maintains current knowledge of subordinate's skills and job performance; performs objective and substantiated evaluation of staff in a timely fashion; and provides constructive suggestions for improving performance.
- Enforces all hospital and department policies. Responds to all employee problems on their shift and serves as a catalyst for resolution of the problem. Takes disciplinary action when necessary. Informs Manager and maintains records of all counseling and verbal reprimands for future reference.
- Participates on blood gas program by ensures ABG equipment maintenance and QA are completed and through active participation on the blood gas committee.
- Generates charges when appropriate.
- Completes other duties and special projects as assigned.
Secondary Job Duties That May be Reassigned
- Maintains all department records regarding patient services, statistical data and other related materials in an accurate, up-to-date condition.
- Ensures the appropriate utilization of equipment and supplies. Monitors equipment availability and makes minor repairs and adjustments as needed.
- Actively participates in department Quality Assurance and Continuous Quality Improvement activities.
- Participates as an active member of committees as assigned.
- As the need arises, provides respiratory care services for all age groups and all patient types.
Job Specifications
- Education: Associate degree in Respiratory Care or equivalent training required.
- Experience: Five years of experience with emphasis on critical care.
- License/Credentials: Certified or Registered Respiratory Therapist (NBRC) – RRT preferred Respiratory Care Practitioner (IPLA)
- Certifications: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - required Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) - required Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) –recommended
