Unit Catering Supervisor (Grade 3)

Lancashire County Council provides catering services to over 500 schools across Lancashire, serving more than 60,000 school meals each day. We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic individual to join our Catering Service.

You will be the lone worker at Royal Cross Primary School , 18 Elswick Rd, Ashton-on-Ribble, Preston PR2 1NT responsible for providing high-quality, healthy, and balanced meals for pupils in a welcoming and efficient dining environment.

This is a cook-serve kitchen , where meals are prepared and served on site. While many menu items are cooked within the kitchen, some products are supplied ready-made and require baking, heating, or simple preparation before service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook, and serve food and beverages in accordance with agreed menus and production plans.
  • Ensure all food is prepared and presented to a high standard.
  • Direct and/or supervise other employees where required.
  • Order supplies, receive deliveries, and ensure stock is stored correctly.
  • Maintain accurate records and stock control systems.
  • Comply with food safety, health and safety, and hygiene regulations.
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and organised kitchen environment is maintained at all times.

What We Are Looking For

  • A recognised catering qualification and/or Food Hygiene Certificate would be desirable.
  • Previous experience in a catering environment, particularly preparing meals for larger numbers, would be advantageous.
  • The ability to work independently and manage all aspects of the kitchen operation.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • A commitment to providing excellent customer service and nutritious meals for children.

Working Hours

  • Monday to Friday
  • Term-time only
  • 18.75 hours per week (hours may vary depending on school meal uptake)

This position is part time and term time only, please note the salary quoted is full time equivalent, the salary received will be paid on a pro – rata basis

Local Government Reorganisation

The Government has confirmed that local government across Lancashire will be reorganised, with the current 15 councils being replaced by four new unitary councils covering North, South, East and West Lancashire from April 2028.

If you are successful in your application, you will initially join Lancashire County Council. However, as part of the planned transition, your employment will transfer to one of the new unitary councils from April 2028, subject to the implementation of the reorganisation and relevant employment legislation.
