About the role
As a Director in the M&A Operations Integration team, you will play a leading role in growing our M&A Integration business and delivering our most complex and high-profile client engagements.
You will originate and convert opportunities acr oss the deal -timeline , lead complex integration engagements across the full deal lifecycle and act as a trusted advisor to Boards, C-suite executives, investors and senior deal teams. You will bring a strong understanding of how integration decisions influence deal value and will help clients translate transaction strategy into executable integration programmes that protect and maximise value.
Alongside direct client delivery, you will provide senior oversight across a portfolio of engagements, build enduring client relationships, develop new propositions and routes to market, and play a significant role in shaping the strategy and growth of the Integration practice.
You will also be a visible leader within the wider M&A Operations business, supporting the development of our people, strengthening connectivity across sectors and capabilities, and creating opportunities for the broader firm.
What your days will look like
- Building and growing senior client relationships, identifying client needs and originating, shaping and converting significant M&A Integration opportunities across Corporate and Private Equity clients.
- Acting as a trusted advisor to Boards, C-suite executives, investors and senior management teams, bringing independent judgement and practical experience to complex integration, value creation and execution decisions.
- Leading complex M&A integration engagements from strategy through execution, with accountability for client outcomes, quality, commercial performance and senior stakeholder relationships.
- Defining integration strategies aligned to the transaction rationale and value case, including the integration ambition, priorities, governance, pace and sequencing required to deliver the intended deal outcomes.
- Leading the design of the combined organisation and target operating model, including decisions on the level of integration required across businesses, functions, geographies and capabilities.
- Overseeing integration planning and execution across the deal lifecycle, including pre-deal integration assessment, synergy and value creation planning, Day 1 readiness, 100-Day planning and post-acquisition implementation.
- Providing senior challenge and guidance on critical programme decisions, risks and trade-offs, helping executive teams maintain momentum and resolve complex issues during periods of significant organisational change.
- Providing oversight across multiple engagements and opportunities, ensuring appropriate leadership , quality and risk management while deploying , managing an d coaching teams effectively across competing client priorities.
- Leading major proposals and pitches, bringing together relevant capabilities from across M&A Operations, Strategy&, Deals and the wider PwC network.
- Driving the growth and development of the Integration practice, including contributing to pipeline development, propositions, methodologies, digital and AI-enabled approaches, and sector-specific integration credentials.
- Working collaboratively with Partners and Directors across PwC to deepen client relationships and identify opportunities for the wider firm.
- Leading and developing our people, coaching Senior Managers and broader teams, building future leaders and acting as a role model for quality, collaboration, inclusion and professional standards.
This role is for you if
- Typically 10+ years of relevant experience, including significant leadership experience within M&A integration, transaction-related transformation or other complex business change programmes.
- Extensive practical experience across the M&A integration lifecycle, including integration strategy, synergy and value creation, target operating model design, Day 1 and 100-Day planning, and post-acquisition execution.
- A strong track record of leading complex integrations or transformation programmes, with the ability to articulate lessons learned from previous transactions and apply these insights to different client situations.
- Experience developing and maintaining senior relationships with C-suite executives, Boards, investors or equivalent stakeholders, with the credibility to influence decisions in complex and high-pressure environments.
- Demonstrable commercial experience, including developing client relationships and contributing to the origination, shaping and conversion of significant consulting or advisory opportunities.
- Prior experience within a consulting environment is preferred and/or substantial experience within an in-house M&A integration, corporate development or transformation team.
- Strong commercial acumen and understanding of the M&A lifecycle, transaction rationale and value creation, with the ability to connect operational integration decisions to the underlying investment thesis and deal value case.
- Broad understanding of business strategy, operating models and operational transformation, supported by strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to quickly understand unfamiliar businesses and sectors.
- Excellent communication, influencing and facilitation skills, with the executive presence to lead challenging discussions, build alignment and communicate complex issues clearly and concisely.
- Strong leadership and people development skills, with experience leading through others, coaching senior team members and developing high-performing and inclusive teams.
- The ability to balance multiple client engagements, business development activities and internal leadership responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience within one or more industry sectors, together with an established professional network or the ability to build one, would be beneficial.
- An interest in and willingness to continue developing expertise in AI, digital and data-enabled approaches to M&A integration.
- Willingness to travel, if required .
