Key Responsibilities (What You Are Doing)

  • Execute hands-on testing of cookware, kitchen gadgets, small appliances, and other products, from developing test ideas and protocols through analyzing results and preparing timely reports.
  • Coordinate all aspects of product testing, including procuring and preparing samples, organizing the Lab, blinding and distributing products when needed, managing consumer testers and surveys, and completing post-test cleanup.
  • Pitch, write, update, and produce compelling product reviews and assigned stories for Good Housekeeping’s digital and print platforms, translating testing insights into clear, useful consumer guidance.
  • Review products and claims for Good Housekeeping Seal usage, evaluating safety, quality, and efficacy and assessing products for the Good Housekeeping Seal and other accolades and awards using the GH Seal database.
  • Support Good Housekeeping product award programs by assisting with submissions, reviewing applications, and evaluating products both in the Lab and with consumer testers.
  • Collaborate with PR contacts and internal teams, including Art, to source imagery, verify product information, fact-check details, and support story production.
  • Assign stories and collaborate with writers to keep projects moving and ensure editorial deadlines are met.
  • Follow established testing protocols and maintain accurate reports, documentation, testing data, and other required records.

Qualifications (What We’re Looking For)

  • 2+ years of relevant experience in product testing, culinary or kitchen-focused work, editorial, commerce content, consumer products, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of cooking, kitchen products, and the consumer considerations that influence purchasing decisions.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate technical testing findings into clear, engaging, consumer-friendly content.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a thoughtful, methodical approach to testing, data analysis, fact-checking, and documentation.
  • Strong organizational and project-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tests, stories, products, and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced editorial and laboratory environment.
  • Experience with hands-on product testing, consumer testing, culinary work, editorial content, or commerce content is preferred.
  • This role is based in New York City and requires working in the office four days per week.

The base pay for this role is $45 per hour. This position is not eligible for bonus or commission compensation. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, qualifications, and location.
