About The Role

How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?

In this position the incumbent is responsible in managing all aspects of HP Filling Facility ensuring safety and adhering to the Quality and IMS Procedures as laid out in the SHEQ Policies of Air Liquide. Safety, Health, Environment, Quality & Process Safety (SHEQ-PS)

  • Prioritize and promote safety across all team activities.
  • Enforce compliance with IMS, HSE, Quality objectives, and Air Liquide SHEQ policies.
  • Comply with all applicable statutory and regulatory requirements across safety, health, environmental, and quality operations.
  • Ensure all Process Safety Events (PSE) are reported, escalated to senior management and the process risk department, and thoroughly investigated.
  • Ensure all Elements of Important Safety (EIS) are systematically tested and operational; follow procedures outlined in the EIS follow-up file for non-operational units and log all EIS deviations into Intelex.
  • Actively participate in IMS responsibilities (SOPs, emergency plans, safety walkabouts, anomaly hunts, near misses, BSVs, safe work permits, LOTO, self-audits, Management of Change).
  • Complete Group Technical Priority 1 actions in IMS mastering tool within the stipulated deadlines and perform regular audit on the effectiveness..
  • Control the use of protective equipment and adherence to operating instructions.
  • Report all HSE, process safety, and environmental incidents (e.g., lime spillages, oil) in Intelex and conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations within stipulated timeframes (GP 14).
  • Manage site permits, renew operating permits across both sites, and handle Air Emission Licenses (AEL).
  • Implement actions per the Air Emission Reduction Strategy and complete annual National Atmospheric Emission Inventory System (NAEIS) reporting.
  • Complete quarterly and annual Air Liquide CO2 Group reporting in the management system.
  • Manage actions using the facility action plan register and ensure all actions are closed timeously.

Operations, Production Management & Inventory Control

  • Plan, organize, lead, and control all aspects of the Filling Facility.
  • Continuously drive the improvement of overall plant yield, Order Filling Rate (OFR) and Productivity (Work Units per work hour).
  • Analyze production demand, inventory, manufacturing deadlines, and costs to set up a production and filling plan.
  • Organize daily production resources and verify employee qualifications and authorizations for assigned tasks.
  • Manage equipment, execute MRP (Material Requirement Planning), and oversee floor stock.
  • Review and sign daily production logsheets, analyzing data to identify anomalies and implement CAPA (corrective and preventative) management.
  • Oversee Daily Performance Management (DPM) for each shift with plant operator leadership and participation.
  • Report plant KPIs on daily production sheets and attend daily operations meetings.
  • Enforce adherence to working hours and rules regarding equipment manning at the Dissolved Acetylene plant.
  • Manage overtime and ensure that the Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA) guidelines are followed.
  • Manage shortages and ensure that product is supplied on time within the required specifications.
  • Investigate and resolve Non-Conforming Cylinder Advices (NCAs) in ERP.
  • Ensure all cylinders are scanned in the cylinder tracking tool (i.e. barcodes, pre-filling inspection, de-gasing, and virtual filling).
  • Manage overall facility costs and prevent raw material stock-outs.
  • Ensure accurate opening and closing stock takes, immediately report and take decisive action on variances, and reconcile actual stock against ERP.
  • Work closely with the CMTS Facility Manager in ensuring cylinder availability for filling.

People, Performance & Training Management

  • Identify and develop talent within the team to foster professional growth and career progression.
  • Plan and appoint permanent and temporary staff resources.
  • Ensure all plant personnel are trained, qualified, and that training records are maintained per procedures.
  • Manage supervisor performance by establishing objectives/KPIs, reviewing progress regularly.
  • Motivate staff to achieve quality standards and ensure product availability.

Total Productive Maintenance

  • Coordinate closely with the Maintenance Manager on plant upkeep and operational priorities.
  • Plan and manage plant shutdowns in direct coordination with the Maintenance Manager and Regional QSHE Co-Ordinator.
  • Adhere to preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Ensure all equipment breakdowns and work requests are logged in CMMS.
  • Follow up with all work requests timeously.

Continuous Improvement & Audit Management, Stakeholder Engagement & Customer Service

  • Drive continuous operational improvements for staff and equipment at the Acetylene Plant to boost productivity and meet specifications.
  • Control operational quality/effectiveness, analyze results, and review operator performance.
  • Participate in industrial audits, present required documentation, analyze results, and execute preventative/corrective action plans to improve safety and eliminate customer complaints.
  • Engage key stakeholders, including Logistics, Sales, Quality, and Senior Management.
  • Drive team efforts to ensure the availability of products that meet customer requirements and satisfaction at Air Liquide sites.
  • Maintain document flow procedures.

  • Are you a MATCH?
  • Education: National Diploma Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent with 6 years process plant experience OR ,
  • Education: BTech/Bsc Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent with 3 years industrial experience will be advantageous .
