WHAT WE OFFER
The primary responsibility of this internship is to work with the Application Development and Product Technology groups supporting the Engineering Plastics business within Covestro located in Pittsburgh, PA. The incumbent will support the team’s focus on improving material performance by testing carefully planned formulations and/or chemistries in the laboratory. Support the design of plastic parts and mold designs activities using state-of-the art CAD and CAE technologies. Additionally, perform hands-on advanced mechanical/thermal testing and processing of plastic parts in our labs
Major Responsibilities
- Devise test plans to understand how material formulation influences key physical properties, in line with typical customer expectations in a given application.
- Coordinate experimental work that includes material preparation, injection molding and materials testing
- Conduct mechanical and thermal part and sample testing using advanced lab equipment
- Analyze data and prepare a summary that succinctly conveys key conclusions to project stakeholders
- Conduct/support advanced injection molding and processing studies
- Develop design concepts using CAD software
- Support the marketing efforts by preparing required information, reports and presentations
WHAT YOU OFFER
Basic Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program with an emphasis in Mechanical, Material Science, or Chemical Engineering
- At the time of hire, the selected candidate must have completed the Freshmen year of college
- College GPA of 3.0 or greater
Knowledge and Skills
- Project coordination with the ability to be proactive and identify creative, effective technical solutions.
- Familiarity with structural analysis and thermal analysis concepts
- Working experience with SolidWorks or similar CAD software
- Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills including an ability to interact and establish strong working relationships with diverse individuals
- Familiarity with laboratory testing and processing equipment
- Experience with AI concepts and tools
