About The Role
Position Description
The laboratory Technician will be responsible for carrying out laboratory analyses for HIV/AIDS related services. Laboratory technician will be under direct supervision of the Lab manager at KCH . This position is based full-time at the KCH lab. S/he provides technical support to the KCH Lab Technicians and ensures quality of laboratory services’ strengthening activities carried out under the project.

Essential Duties
Planning & Implementation
- work side-by-side with ministry laboratory personnel to review data and systems to identify and address gaps affecting client care.
- Support the development of monthly, quarterly and annual laboratory support plans
- Build and strengthen the capacity of Laboratory technicians in the management of Viral Load and EID Sample management.
- Manage the stocks of the VL, CD4, TB, and EID supplies.
- Develop and manage a viral load sample management structure.
Training & Mentoring
- Provide mentorship and on-the-job training to fellow laboratory Technicians on management of HIV-related commodities.
- Support development of storage guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for management of HIV-related Laboratory supplies.
Monitoring & Evaluation
- Provide technical support to strengthen HIV-related data management in line with the national Health Management Information System in the district laboratory and reporting on VL and EID samples.
- Identify service gaps for HIV and other related diseases in the laboratory services management and take remedial action
- Conduct joint district team supervision and mentorship where necessary and applicable including that from Central Laboratory Unit and mentoring visits.
Reporting
- Submit monthly and quarterly narrative and statistical reports as requested by the project leadership.
- Undertake any other duties as assigned from time to time by supervisor
Key Deliverables
- Mentorship and technical capacity building to MoH lab personnel.
- Periodic laboratory support plans.
- Performance reports monthly and quarterly.

- Degree in Laboratory Technology
- 2-3 years’ experience at Laboratory Technical (TO) level
- Familiarity with HIV-related laboratory reagents and standard operating procedures for HIV-related laboratory services management in line with the national EMLS
- Computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Fluent in English and Chichewa
- Previous experience with HIV programmes preferred
- Strong communication skills (oral and written)
- Integrity and professionalism
- Work may start before 7:30am and may be physically demanding due to travel into the rural areas.
