About The Role

Position Description

The Health Testing Mentors are experienced supervisors who will support the MOH HTS coordinator to establish and maintain systems to support service delivery to achieve HTS targets and ensure clients receive all appropriate diagnostic services with the relevant associated counseling and linkage to treatment. They will support and mentor facility in-charges to provide oversight to HDA mentors and HDAs to ensure that the sites operate efficiently every day and that all testing services and interventions are implemented efficiently. They will share best practices to preserve the progress made by previous programs. They will comprise part of the mentorship team and provide mentorship to MoH site level testing teams together with MoH HTS coordinator in the use of scanform technology and other testing-related tools. They will work closely with facility clinical and testing cadres and district supervisory teams to use data to identify gaps and develop interventions to address them.

Essential Duties

  • Provide technical assistance and mentorship to MoH district and facility teams to strengthen systems for high-quality HIV testing, AHD testing, malaria, Hepatitis B, syphilis, and other testing, including counseling, referral, and linkage to care.
  • Work side-by-side with facility testing services in-charges and district supervisors to ensure delivery of best practices, routinely review performance data, identify gaps, develop corrective actions, and monitor progress toward targets.
  • Support facility leadership to strengthen supervision, organization, staffing, client flow, and coverage of testing and related services.
  • Maintain current knowledge of national testing services guidelines, protocols, SOPs, and tools and mentor facility teams to implement them consistently and with fidelity.
  • Strengthen testing services quality assurance and quality control systems, including adherence to testing algorithms, QC/QA procedures, proficiency testing, and appropriate documentation.
  • Conduct regular supportive supervision and mentorship visits to assigned facilities, providing feedback and following up on identified actions.
  • Assess training and capacity-building needs and coordinate or provide on-the-job mentorship and training for testing services providers, supervisors, and other relevant cadres.
  • Support facility and district teams to identify and address operational barriers affecting testing and linkage, including client flow, referral systems, commodities, supplies, and service coverage.
  • Promote effective coordination and communication among MoH, facility, district, and program teams to ensure identified challenges are addressed and feedback loops are closed.
  • Complete required program documentation and reporting and provide timely updates on performance, progress, challenges, and actions taken.

Key Deliverables

  • Strong facility testing services teams with clearly defined roles, effective supervision, and increasing capacity to independently manage high-quality testing services.
  • Routine review of facility performance against testing, linkage, and quality targets, with documented actions to address identified gaps.
  • Consistent implementation of national testing services guidelines, SOPs, quality assurance standards, and testing tools across assigned facilities.
  • Improved systems for client flow, referral, linkage to treatment, and integration of testing services with other facility services.
  • Timely and accurate submission of required reports, updates, and program information.
  • Documented mentorship and capacity-building activities demonstrating progressive skills transfer to MoH and facility teams.
  • A Diploma in health related and or Community Development field
  • Certified HTS provider by MoH
  • Certified HTS supervisor by MoH added advantage
  • At least two years’ experience as a Site Supervisor with Baylor College of Medicine
  • Flexible and able to work and meet deadlines under pressure
  • High respect and care for persons living with HIV.
  • Ability to meet deadlines with strong attention to consistency, detail, and quality
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, mature, disciplined, loyal, and shows initiative with an ability to work independently and within a team
  • Ability to ride a motorcycle and be able to obtain a motorcycle license. Motorcycle license added advantage
