The Associate IT Architect is a hands-on technical leadership role. You will direct, design, and support software projects across ChenMed, partnering with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable, scalable solutions. This role requires both independent work and cross-functional collaboration. You are expected to make sound technical decisions, drive them forward, and unblock delivery without relying on direct management oversight. You will guide architecture and implementation choices, mentor software developers, and serve as the technical lead for small to medium-sized engineering teams.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Architecture and design : Define and evolve solution architecture for projects, including APIs, data models, integration patterns, and deployment considerations, aligned with ChenMed's architecture direction and shared standards in partnership with peer architects.
  • Technical leadership: Act as tech lead for small to medium engineering teams; set technical direction, review designs and code, contribute hands-on through implementation, testing, and debugging, and keep delivery on track.
  • Build vs. buy: Evaluate and recommend build-versus-buy options, including vendor assessment, total cost of ownership, integration effort, and long-term maintainability.
  • Project support: Partner with stakeholders to clarify requirements, break multi-month initiatives into actionable work for the team, identify risks, and support projects from conception through production.
  • Mentorship: Coach and mentor software developers on architecture, design patterns, coding practices, and professional growth.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Work across product, engineering, operations, and business teams to align technical solutions with organizational needs.
  • Decision ownership: Make pragmatic technical decisions, document rationale, and move initiatives forward with minimal escalation.
  • Quality and standards: Promote engineering best practices and ensure designs account for non-functional requirements (security, scalability, reliability, performance, and cost) alongside maintainability, observability, and testability.
  • Adaptive approach: Staying ahead of emerging industry trends and evolving technologies to proactively inform and adapt technical decisions in line with modern ways of working.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Proficient in at least 2 of the following languages or frameworks: Java, Javascript/Typescript, Spring Boot, React
  • Expert in understanding relational and NoSQL Databases such as SQL (MySQL), MongoDB
  • Familiar with at least one cloud provider: AWS (preferred), GCP, Azure
  • Knowledgeable in technologies related to event driven architecture such as Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, Amazon MSK
  • Deep understanding of architecture/software engineering patterns such as: MVC, CQRS, event sourcing, event-driven, Strangler Fig, IaC, Modular Monolith Expert in delivering web based software using standards such as: RESTful and GraphQL API design, distributed systems concepts, and modern software delivery practices (version control, CI/CD), publisher and consumer, containerization

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE CRITERIA

  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer or Software Engineering or a related field OR additional experience above the minimum will be considered in lieu of the required education on a year-for-year basis required
  • A minimum of 5 years of IT-related work experience required
  • MCSA, MCSE or a related IT certification preferred



 PAY RANGE

$108,313 - $154,733 Salary The posted pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for this position. Final compensation will depend on a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, education, geographic location, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for a bonuses or commissions.
