Job Description
The Field Access Manager (FAM) is a non-promotional, field-based reimbursement and patient access expert responsible for educating healthcare providers on payer requirements, reimbursement processes, and company-sponsored patient support programs to facilitate timely and appropriate patient access to therapy. This role will support infectious disease therapies, partnering with hospitals, academic medical centers, infectious disease specialists, pharmacies, and other healthcare providers to navigate the complexities of patient access across both inpatient and outpatient settings. The Field Access Manager collaborates cross-functionally with Sales, Market Access, Medical Affairs, Patient Support, Compliance, Marketing, and Operations to identify reimbursement barriers, improve patient access, and optimize the customer experience while ensuring all activities remain compliant with company policies and applicable healthcare regulations.
The base compensation range for this role is $190-210K. Base Compensation is influenced by many factors including, but not limited to: time in the role, previous experience, skills, knowledge, performance, work requirements, internal equity, and business / economic conditions.
SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Acts as the subject matter expert (SME) in access, coding, coverage, and reimbursement for assigned therapeutic products within specified geography.
- Educates HCPs on the access process and available resources to support patients .
- Builds relationships with infectious disease physicians, hospital case management teams, discharge planners, pharmacists, and other healthcare stakeholders supporting patient access.
- Provides ongoing support for HCP access questions regarding benefits verification, prior authorization, appeals, financial assistance or other access and reimbursement questions.
- Partners with HUB/Patient Services teams to support & monitor the patient journey from enrollment through therapy initiation.
- Collaborates with Sales, Market Access, and Patient Support teams to provide integrated support that enhances the overall customer experience while following appropriate compliance ways of working.
- Uses analytics dashboards to identify potential reimbursement challenges and monitor overall access experience in the geography.
- Maintains detailed, timely documentation of field activities and customer interactions in the CRM system.
- Monitors local and national access trends, payer policy changes, and emerging access challenges.
- Participates in team meetings and calls, training sessions, and regional or national sales meetings as appropriate.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA or healthcare-related) preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of overall healthcare industry experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, specialty pharmacy, hospital, payer, reimbursement, patient services, nursing, case management, or related healthcare settings.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a Field Access Manager, Field Reimbursement Manager, Patient Access Liaison, or equivalent field-based role directly supporting patient access.
- Demonstrated experience educating healthcare providers on coding, reimbursement and patient access processes within specialty prescribers, hospitals, academic medical centers, and pharmacies.
- Demonstrated knowledge of payer policy and coverage criteria for Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance.
- Direct experience supporting patient access through transitions between inpatient and outpatient settings.
- S trong working knowledge of HUB services, co-pay programs, patient assistance programs, and reimbursement processes.
- Experience supporting oncology or HIV therapies strongly preferred.
- Proven track record of cross-functional collaboration, particularly with Sales and Market Access.
- Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and CRM systems.
- Ability to manage a large territory and travel between 60%-80% of your time including overnights.
