About The Role

Introduction

The Product Compliance Specialist ensures Shimano products meet applicable European regulatory and technical requirements while supporting the company's commitment to quality and innovation. By monitoring regulatory developments, interpreting standards, and guiding cross-functional teams, the role enables compliant product development and successful market access across Shimano's Bicycle and Fishing Tackle businesses. As a member of the Product Quality & Compliance team, alongside fellow Compliance Specialists and the QC Coordinator, the successful candidate will focus on the electro-mechanical compliance domain (EMC, electrical safety, battery technologies), represent Shimano in technical standardization committees and industry working groups.

The successful candidate demonstrates strong expertise in product compliance combined with practical business and commercial acumen. This enables them to translate regulatory requirements into effective business solutions and identify opportunities that support Shimano's growth, innovation, and market success.

The Challenge

  • Monitor and assess European regulatory developments, standards, and technical requirements relevant to Shimano products.
  • Interpret compliance requirements and provide guidance to cross-functional teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Support compliant product development and successful market access across Shimano's Bicycle and Fishing Tackle businesses.
  • Conduct compliance impact assessments and recommend practical, risk-based solutions.
  • Support conformity assessment activities and regulatory compliance processes.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for the electro-mechanical compliance domain, including EMC, electrical safety, and battery technologies.
  • Represent Shimano in technical standardization committees and industry working groups.
  • Translate regulatory requirements into effective business solutions that support innovation, growth, and commercial success.

What are we looking for?

  • A combination of compliance knowledge and engineering competence
  • Have or are looking to develop business influence skills.
  • Knowledge of EU product legislation and conformity assessment processes
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills
  • Strong ability to analyze complex regulations and standards.
  • Capable of conducting compliance impact assessments.
  • Structured and risk-based approach to decision-making.
  • Ability to identify pragmatic solutions that balance compliance and cost
  • Are you curious and proactive.
  • German speaking is a plus

Working knowledge with regulations such as

  • Machinery Regulation, General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR), EMC Directive
  • Radio Equipment Directive (for connected products), Battery Regulation/Standards
  • Understanding of Electrical safety principles, mechanical design and safety, Battery-powered products and manufacturing processes and quality systems
  • Detail-oriented without losing sight of the bigger picture.
  • Comfortable working in an international matrix organization.
  • Influential communicator rather than a "compliance policeman."
