The Role

The purpose of the role is to support the Australia Finance team in delivering external reporting requirements for the Australian business under Australian IFRS and LAGIC. The Australia Finance team operates within a global Finance function and supports reporting across multiple bases for the Group, including US GAAP and Bermuda Monetary Authority reporting.

The role involves supporting key month-end and quarter-end processes, as well as the preparation of annual statutory financial statements.

The role is broad in nature and includes tax compliance support, board paper preparation, accounting analysis, and support for internal and external audit requests. You will also be involved in a variety of Finance projects affecting the Australian business unit, including IFRS accounting standards implementation and process optimisation.

You will collaborate with colleagues in Australia and across our global Finance teams to support the effective and efficient delivery of strategic projects. The role may require occasional out-of-hours calls to connect with Finance teams based in Singapore, Toronto and London.

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Reporting, key responsibilities include, but are not limited to

Responsibilities

Support the preparation of accurate and complete annual statutory financial statements, regulatory returns and tax returns, as appropriate.

Financial reporting, including month-end and quarter-end journal preparation for PLRA. This includes maintaining the integrity of processes and outputs and supporting continuous improvement.

Duties include

  • Prepare and post month-end and quarter-end journals
  • Balance Sheet reconciliations
  • Support the preparation of accounting papers for new standard implementation and new transactions

Support business unit projects where Australian-specific analysis and inputs are required

  • Provide support to the finance team and wider business by managing and participating in ad-hoc tasks and projects as and when required
  • Manage and maintain an efficient process that enables systematic and organised filing for all documents
  • During FY26/27, the role will have a strong focus on user acceptance testing and implementation of the new accounting ledger infrastructure, expected to go live in January 2027

Qualifications & Experience

Essential Experience

  • Degree in business or accounting
  • Proficiency in Excel
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Basic understanding of life insurance accounting

Desirable Experience

  • PeopleSoft or Oracle experience
  • Data analytics experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Copilot
  • General accounting knowledge (including accounting reconciliations, journal posting)
  • General understanding of Australian tax reporting, including business activity statements, payroll tax and fringe benefits tax returns
