Department Overview
Market Risk (MR) is responsible for managing the ever-changing and dynamic world of trading and non-trading market risk, counterparty credit, margin management and liquidity risk. Within MR, we are accountable for supporting TD Securities and TBSM business objectives in accordance with TD’s risk appetite and regulatory expectations. MR provides independent oversight of enterprise-wide market, counterparty credit and liquidity risks; ensuring all significant risks are appropriately measured, reported, analyzed and transparent.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and skilled Market Risk Analyst to join our dynamic Market Risk Management team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in assessing, analyzing, and managing market risks across various asset classes. This individual will provide critical insights to senior management, helping shape strategic decisions and ensuring the firm is well-positioned to manage market volatility and financial risks effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Risk Measurement
- Measure Market Risk consumption through the p roduc tion , validat ion , and distribut ion of periodic market risk reports across credit strategies , ensuring timeliness, accuracy, and completeness.
- Monitor key risk metrics including VaR , stress testing, sensitivities, concentration exposures, and limit utilization, escalating exceptions and anomalies as appropriate.
- Investigate and resolve risk reporting discrepancies, data quality issues, and production breaks in collaboration with technolog y and market data team .
- Maintain production procedures and operational controls supporting market risk reporting processes.
Risk Analytics & Market Monitoring
- Analyze portfolio risk exposures, profit and loss attributions , and changes in risk sensitivities resulting from market movements and trading activit ies .
- Monitor financial markets and provide concise commentary on significant developments across credit, rates, equities and other relevant asset classes.
- Support stress testing, scenario analys e s, and ad hoc risk investigations to assess potential impacts from changing market conditions.
- Develop an understanding of trading strategies, valuation methodologies, and risk characteristics of financial products and derivatives.
- Continuously build knowledge of existing and emerging market risks, regulatory developments, and industry trends.
Collaboration & Strategy
- Work closely with the Front Office, Product Control and finance teams to identify and explain market risks within portfolios .
- Collaborate with technology and risk infrastructure teams to identify, prioritize, test, and implement enhancements to market risk platforms, data feeds, reporting tools, and production processes.
Qualifications
Education : Bachelor’s degree in Finance , Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., FRM, CFA) is preferred.
Experience
- E xperience in risk analytics, portfolio management, and financial modeling.
- Proven track record of working with financial instruments and derivatives.
Skills
- Proficiency in risk management tools, coding and software is nice to have (e.g. AI , Python, Bloomberg, Tableau, Microsoft Excel, etc.).
- Expertise in quantitative analysis , statistics , financial modeling, and advanced Excel skills.
- Strong understanding of risk metrics, such as VaR , stress testing, and scenario analysis.
- Familiarity with financial regulations, including Basel III and Dodd-Frank.
- Excellent communication (both written and spoken) and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information for various stakeholders.
