About the Role

Nxtra by Airtel in Africa is developing a Data Centre Division, building the most advanced, secure and efficient Data Centres in the African Countries where it shall operate. Our hyper-scale, mission-critical data centres across the continent would deliver high-density, energy-efficient, and highly secure infrastructure. For our premier facility in Lagos Nigeria, we are seeking a visionary MEPF (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection) Engineer through construction, testing, commissioning, and long-term facility operations.

To provide MEPF engineering leadership through construction, testing & commissioning and ongoing Data Centre operations, ensuring that all critical infrastructure is delivered, commissioned and operated to the highest standards of safety, reliability, resilience and efficiency.

  • Provide Client-side MEPF technical oversight during construction, with focus on quality, installation, interfaces, readiness and operational requirements.
  • Coordinate MEPF interfaces with CSA, specialist systems, contractors, vendors and project teams.
  • Participate in equipment installation, energisation, pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.
  • Lead the MEPF operations team through L1–L5 testing and integrated systems testing, including development/review of test scenarios, witnessing, issue resolution and final acceptance.
  • Ensure all MEPF systems are fully tested, documented and operationally ready before handover.
  • Take ownership of MEPF engineering for ongoing Data Centre operations, including HV/MV, generators, UPS, cooling, BMS/EPMS, plumbing and fire protection.
  • Develop and maintain the operating philosophy, SOPs, MOPs and EOPs for critical MEPF systems.
  • Ensure operational resilience, redundancy and concurrent maintainability are maintained at all times.
  • Lead technical response to MEPF incidents, failures, alarms and abnormal operating conditions.
  • Oversee preventive maintenance, shutdowns, switching activities, equipment replacement and major maintenance interventions.
  • Monitor system performance, capacity, reliability and energy efficiency and drive continuous improvement.
  • Provide technical leadership for modifications, capacity upgrades and future expansion.
  • Establish operational standards, training requirements, asset information, spares strategy and technical documentation.
  • Coordinate with OEMs, specialist contractors and service providers to maintain critical equipment and systems.

Educational Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or related discipline from reputed institutions.

Relevant Experience & Functional / Technical Skills

  • 8+ years of MEPF experience, preferably with significant Data Centre / Mission Critical experience.
  • Strong practical knowledge of critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
  • Proven experience spanning construction, testing & commissioning and operations.
  • Strong knowledge of L1–L5 testing and integrated systems testing.
  • Experience operating Tier III/Tier IV or similarly resilient facilities preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting, incident management and contractor/vendor management capability.
  • Ability to make sound engineering decisions in a 24X7 mission-critical operating environment.
