Your role

Responsible for partnering with the business to provide environmental regulatory, compliance and assurance advice, expertise and support, helping to deliver effective environmental governance, regulatory compliance and risk-based assurance outcomes that support business objectives.

The role provides environmental subject matter expertise, regulatory guidance, governance support and assurance activities to assist the business in managing environmental risks and meeting applicable Commonwealth, State and Local Government obligations. The role also supports the application of digital technologies, data analytics, artificial intelligence and automation to enhance environmental reporting, compliance monitoring, assurance activities and proactive risk management.

As our Environmental Regulatory & Assurance Advisor you are accountable for

  • Monitor environmental performance and provide support to sites on managing environmental risks and obligations
  • Provide advice on environmental legislation, regulatory requirements and corporate compliance obligations, including NGER and AICIS
  • Support regulatory reporting and compliance reviews
  • Partner with sites to strengthen their first line environmental compliance and risk management practices
  • Support the maintenance and continual improvement of the Thales Environmental Management System in line with ISO 14001 requirements
  • Assist in the development and implementation of environmental processes, procedures and controls
  • Develop and maintain environmental reporting, dashboards and performance analytics to support informed decision-making
  • Identify and support opportunities to improve environmental performance through the use of digital technologies, automation and AI-enabled tools
  • Partner with site HSE teams to strengthen first-line environmental assurance activities
  • Provide practical advice and interpretation of environmental legislative and regulatory requirements
  • Engaging with regulators, auditors, government agencies and external stakeholders as required
  • Support the presentation of environmental performance, compliance status and assurance outcomes
  • Translate environmental and sustainability data into meaningful insights and business decisions

Your experience

To be successful in your role, you will have demonstrated and/or acquired the following knowledge and experience

  • Ideally have AQF level 7 qualifications in environmental science or management (or similar)
  • Ideally have 5-7 years’ demonstrated environmental background with knowledge of Australian environmental legislation, regulatory compliance frameworks and environmental management systems, preferably within industrial, manufacturing, infrastructure or defence-related operations
  • Demonstrated experience implementing and maintaining ISO 14001 certified management systems
  • Experience managing regulatory obligations including NGER, AICIS and environmental licensing requirements
  • Proven ability to develop and execute risk-based assurance and audit programs
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex datasets and identify trends
  • Experience developing performance dashboards and environmental reporting systems
  • Demonstrated interest in, and application of, emerging technologies, automation, AI-enabled solutions and digital transformation initiatives
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills across all organisational levels
  • Ability to work independently while effectively managing competing priorities
  • ISO14001 auditor qualifications preferred
  • Lead Auditor qualification highly regarded

A Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain an appropriate clearance.

In some cases, individuals who hold a current clearance from a foreign government may be eligible to have this clearance recognised by the Australian Government and be eligible for this role.
