Your role and responsibilities
At ABB, we develop battery systems and traction solutions that power trains, mining equipment, and industrial applications around the world. We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our battery development team in Untersiggenthal and contribute to the next generation of energy storage solutions.
This is an opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary environment alongside experts in battery technology, thermal management, materials, manufacturing, testing, and system engineering. We are looking for someone who enjoys taking ownership, solving complex engineering challenges, and turning innovative ideas into practical solutions.

This role is contributing to the Motion Traction Energy Storage Solutions (ESS) Product Line in Switzerland .
You will be mainly accountable for
- Leading mechanical development activities for battery systems and related components throughout the product lifecycle.
- Owning technical work packages from concept development through validation and industrialization.
- Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams including electrical, systems, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and product management experts.
- Driving technical improvements, supporting innovation initiatives, and contributing to the development of future product platforms.
Qualifications for the role
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Solid experience in the design and development of complex mechanical products and assemblies.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing technologies such as sheet metal forming, extrusion, and injection molding.
- Proven experience working with customers, suppliers, and international project teams.
- Extensive experience with 3D CAD and PLM/PDM systems, ideally PTC Creo and Windchill.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including structural design, material selection, and design for manufacturing.
- Experience in battery systems or energy storage solutions is considered an advantage but is not required.
- Fluent communication skills in both German and English.
