  • Department: Team Pegasus (Corporate Development & Growth)
  • Location: Remote; assigned regional territory encompassing large, complex, and high-impact operating group footprints across DaVita's Titan Operating Group (spanning MD, DC, DE, VA, NC, KY, and WV). Final sub-regional territory and divisional alignment determined based on candidate profile, expertise, and strategic market priorities.

About Team Pegasus

Team Pegasus serves as DaVita's dedicated growth and business development engine, driving physician alignment, strategic partnerships, joint ventures, acquisitions, and market development across the country.

As a Senior Business Development Director, you will serve as a premier strategic growth leader, senior deal originator, and trusted advisor across high-impact and highly complex regional portfolios within DaVita's Titan Operating Group. In close partnership with senior operational executives (DVPs, GVPs, and RODs) and as a credible extension of executive leadership, you will design and execute sophisticated, multi-year market strategies, originate and close high-value transactions, foster deep clinical and health system partnerships, and lead cross-functional action teams to accelerate clinical reach and sustainable growth across the Village.

Key Responsibilities & Core Competencies

  1. High-Impact Deal Origination & Complex Transaction Execution
  • Strategic Target Origination: Proactively source, originate, and build a high-conviction pipeline of high-impact acquisition opportunities, including multi-site independent dialysis clinics, physician practice assets, and strategic joint ventures across priority geographies.
  • Complex Deal Structuring & Execution: Lead end-to-end deal lifecycles for high-complexity, large-scale, and strategic transactions—from outreach, valuation, and due diligence through LOI negotiation, deal structuring, and definitive legal agreements in collaboration with Deal Depot and Operations.
  • Risk Mitigation & Deal Navigation: Proactively identify transaction risks, regulatory hurdles (including Certificate of Need / CON requirements), and physician dynamics, navigating roadblocks effectively and negotiating solutions to ensure value-accretive, compliant closings.
  1. Strategic Thinking, Market Intelligence & Value Creation
  • Enterprise Growth Strategy: Architect and lead multi-year market strategies across divisions to achieve targeted census expansion, clinical reach, and market share.
  • Smart Bets & Resource Allocation: Place calculated, data-driven bets to drive long-term enterprise value; allocate personal and cross-functional partner resources toward highest-value priorities.
  • Market Mapping & Whitespace Optimization: Direct advanced whitespace assessments, physician supply/demand mapping, and competitive analyses to forecast consolidation trends and build offensive and defensive market strategies.
  • Strategic Misalignment Resolution: Resolve complex misalignments in market prioritization or risk appetite across operational, clinical, and finance leadership to align teams behind unified growth plans.
  1. Physician, Health System & Executive Partnerships
  • Strategic Nephrology Alignment: Cultivate enduring, C-suite and senior-level relationships with large independent nephrology groups, health system executives, and regional healthcare leaders.
  • Innovative Alignment Models: Source, design, and structure sophisticated alignment frameworks, including Medical Director Agreements (MDAs), complex Joint Ventures (JVs), and Value-Based Care (VBC) / integrated kidney care models.
  • Executive Presence & Influence: Serve as a credible extension of the executive leadership team, framing complex concepts with clarity and tailoring high-stakes strategic rationale to physician boards, health system C-suites, and internal senior executives.
  1. Matrix Leadership, Operational Partnership & Team Development
  • Executive Operational Partnership: Act as a strategic thought partner to Group Vice Presidents (GVPs), Division Vice Presidents (DVPs), Regional Operations Directors (RODs), Field Strategy, and Finance partners, seamlessly integrating growth initiatives into core operating rhythms.
  • Constructive Influence & Courageous Communication: Communicate complex strategic concepts with precision; demonstrate the capability and composure to respectfully challenge and align perspectives with DVP and GVP partners.
  • Mentorship & Talent Development: Directly and indirectly lead, mentor, and upskill talent across the growth ecosystem—including Physician Relationship Managers (PRMs), Redwoods leadership fellows, Pegasus Directors, Special Ops, and cross-functional action teams.
  • Cross-Lane Matrix Leadership: Drive accountability and alignment across legal, regulatory, compliance, finance, and clinical lanes to streamline execution.
  1. Culture, Change Leadership & Villagewide Impact (GRSD & DaVita Way)
  • Lead the DaVita Way: Serve as an active cultural champion of DaVita's core values (Service Excellence, Integrity, Team, Continuous Improvement, Accountability, Fulfillment, and Fun), intentionally designing collaborative ways of working that foster trust, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Conflict Mediation: Proactively mediate complex stakeholder conflicts across internal lanes and external partners to protect critical relationships and accelerate deal outcomes.
  • Villagewide Change Initiatives: Lead and contribute to major Villagewide action teams, special initiatives, and strategic workstreams that shape national Pegasus standards and broader Village growth playbooks.
  • Proactive Risk Management & Compliance: Identify broader organizational and market-level risks across operating groups, establishing robust mitigation plans while upholding the highest standards of healthcare compliance and partner selection criteria.

Qualifications & Candidate Profile

  • Education: Bachelor's degree required; MBA, MHA, or equivalent master's degree strongly preferred.
  • Experience: 8+ years of progressive experience in healthcare business development, corporate development / M&A, healthcare investment banking / private equity, healthcare management consulting, or senior physician practice/operations leadership.
  • Senior Deal Track Record: Demonstrated track record of independently originating, structuring, negotiating, and executing large, high-complexity healthcare M&A transactions, joint ventures, or strategic health system alliances.
  • Financial & Commercial Mastery: Advanced financial acumen with extensive experience modeling complex deal structures, evaluating pro formas, assessing enterprise risk, and optimizing P&L impact.
  • Executive Influence & Thought Partnership: Proven ability to command credibility as an executive peer, engaging and influencing C-suite executives, physician practice owners, health system boards, and internal executive vice presidents.
  • People Leadership & Coaching: Demonstrated success leading and developing direct reports or cross-functional matrixed teams (e.g., junior deal leads, operational partners, leadership development fellows).
  • Adaptability & Resilience: Superior judgment, resourcefulness, and emotional intelligence in navigating long-cycle, politically nuanced, and multi-stakeholder healthcare environments.
  • Travel Flexibility: Willingness to travel 30%–50% within assigned regional territory for partner meetings, physician dinners, site visits, and executive sessions.
