Job Description

Position Summary: The Audiology Externship at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center provides a fourth-year audiology student opportunity to participate in diagnostic and rehabilitative audiology care to the adult population. The Extern will work alongside clinical audiologists, all of whom have earned a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Using clinical judgment, select and implement most appropriate evaluation methods for diverse patient needs. Determine if the patient is a hearing aid candidate or would benefit from assistive listening devices. Provide care to patients with implantable hearing technologies including cochlear implants, BAHA and Esteem implants. Perform and interpret electrophysiologic assessment including VEMP, EcochG and ABR. Document all pertinent information in aChart (audiology) TIMS office based system (hearing aid center).

Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to

• -Reviews re sults and recommendations to patient regarding diagnostic tests and rehabilitative options
• -Determine s if the patient is a hearing aid candidate or would benefit from assistive listening devices
• -Performs D iagnostic assessment of hearing loss and hearing rehabilitation options
• -Exercises clinical judgment in select ing and implement ing most appropriate evaluation methods for diverse patient needs
• -Greet s patients, identify oneself as an audiologist and explain s hearing and balance testing
• -Select s appropriate hearing aid device for patient based on audiologic test results.
• -Provides quality ear mold impressions for hearing aids, swim plugs and custom noise protection.
• -Provid es appropriate programming of selected amplification device.
• -Provide s care to patients with implantable hearing technologies including cochlear implants, BAHA and Esteem implants
• -Perform s and interpret s electrophysiologic assessment including VEMP, EcochG and ABR
• -Obtain s telemetry measures in operating room for cochlear implant procedures
• -Work s collaboratively with Otolaryngology nursing staff to provide excellent patient care.
• -Review s abnormal test results with referring physician
• -Provide s written educational material and review s with patient/family
• -Provide s occasional cross coverage at all audiology sites, including Burlington , Peabody and Lexington .
• -Provide s patient with written and verbal instructions regarding battery use, care and maintenance of the hearing aid.
• -Troubleshoot s repairs devices if possible .
• -Determine s if hearing aid needs to be returned to manufacturer for repair.

• Address es any issues or concerns the patient or family member may have regarding their hearing aids

• -Incorporates Lahey Clinic Guiding Principles , Mission Statement and Goals into daily activities .

Pay Range

$20.00 - $20.00

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
