About The Role

The Senior OT/IT Data Specialist will support the design, implementation, operation, and continuous improvement of the Smart Factory Data Backbone platform. This role bridges industrial automation, OT/IT networking, industrial data engineering, and modern software platforms. The successful candidate will support integration of shop-floor equipment and OT systems with edge, enterprise IT, and cloud services while ensuring industrial data is secure, reliable, well-governed, and fit for downstream applications.

This is a senior, hands-on technical role that combines architecture support, technical delivery, platform troubleshooting, vendor coordination, stakeholder collaboration, data governance, and operational support across manufacturing locations. The role will work closely with architects, engineers, lifecycle teams, system integrators, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable smart factory solutions and support future digital manufacturing initiatives.

  • Participate in site-level architecture design activities across manufacturing locations and support implementation of the Smart Factory Data Backbone platform.
  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Data Backbone infrastructure, including Kubernetes/OpenShift-based edge deployments.
  • Integrate industrial equipment, PLCs, and OT systems using industrial protocols such as Siemens S7, OPC UA, MQTT, and similar connectivity technologies.
  • Troubleshoot OT/IT networking issues including TCP/IP, routing, NAT, firewalls, DNS, certificates, and edge-to-cloud connectivity.
  • Build, support, and maintain industrial data pipelines, messaging solutions, and integration architectures using technologies such as Litmus, MQTT, and OPC UA.
  • Develop and maintain industrial data models to contextualize machine, asset, and time-series data for downstream applications and analytics.
  • Perform data validation and troubleshooting across the complete machine-to-cloud data flow, including equipment, network, edge platform, data pipeline, and database/cloud environments to ensure data quality, accuracy, and reliability.
  • Support technical acceptance testing of vendor solutions following deployment and contribute to Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) activities.
  • Support IT/OT risk assessments related to the Smart Factory Data Backbone platform and connected manufacturing systems.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of data governance standards, documentation, tag naming conventions, and tag enablement processes.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation including system designs, technical procedures, configuration guides, governance documentation, and operational support materials.
  • Collaborate closely with architects, lifecycle teams, software developers, data engineers, system integrators, vendors, and manufacturing stakeholders to support successful project delivery.
  • Support system enhancements, upgrades, troubleshooting activities, and continuous improvement initiatives for industrial data platforms and connected systems.
  • Transfer technical knowledge to lifecycle teams, contractors, vendors, developers, and support personnel to ensure sustainable long-term platform ownership.
  • Take ownership of assigned technical activities and proactively drive issues to resolution while effectively communicating progress, risks, and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures, quality standards, cybersecurity requirements, and engineering governance practices.
  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, Data Science, Automation, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Master's degree in a relevant technical discipline is preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant professional experience supporting one or more of the following areas:

  • 4.Industrial data engineering
  • 5.Industrial IT
  • 6.Platform engineering
  • 7.Systems engineering
  • Strong experience with industrial protocols and connectivity technologies such as OPC UA, MQTT, Siemens S7, or equivalent industrial communication protocols.
  • Strong understanding of OT/IT networking concepts, including TCP/IP, routing, NAT, firewalls, DNS, certificates, and secure connectivity.
  • Experience designing, implementing, or supporting industrial data pipelines, messaging platforms, and integration architectures.
  • Experience working with industrial Historians, time-series databases, or similar industrial data platforms.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker, or other containerized deployment technologies.
  • Experience with Litmus or equivalent industrial edge platforms is preferred.
  • Experience with AVEVA Historian, QuestDB, PI System, Ignition Historian, or equivalent Historian/time-series database platforms is desirable.
  • Experience with tag enablement, Historian/SCADA tag scaling, and configuration activities is preferred.
  • Experience with Unified Namespace (UNS) architectures and industrial data contextualization is desirable.
  • Experience working in multi-site manufacturing, industrial, process industry, energy, oil and gas, utilities, or brownfield operational environments is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with industrial cybersecurity practices and standards such as IEC 62443.
  • Experience supporting production platforms, operational support teams, and lifecycle management activities.
  • Experience collaborating with external technology vendors, system integrators, and third-party service providers.
  • Ability to develop and maintain solutions using Python, Go, TypeScript, Node-RED, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with modern software development and operational practices including SLAs, change management, incident management, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across OT, IT, engineering, and business teams.
  • Demonstrates ownership by taking responsibility for issues, following through on actions, and driving tasks to completion.
  • Shows initiative, adaptability, and a proactive attitude while working across organizational and geographical boundaries.
  • Produces accurate, maintainable, and well-documented technical solutions while maintaining high standards of quality and reliability.
  • Comfortable working in a global environment with stakeholders across multiple regions and time zones.
  • Willingness to travel internationally, including visits to Denmark and manufacturing sites as required.
