Job Responsibilities
- Provide strategic and technical leadership for the Estate, Gift and Trust practice, including oversight of complex federal and state estate, gift, generation-skipping transfer, fiduciary income, and related tax matters for high-net-worth individuals, families, trusts, and estates.
- Serve as a senior advisor to clients and their professional advisors on sophisticated estate, gift, and trust planning strategies, including multigenerational wealth transfer, business succession, charitable planning, fiduciary matters, and the tax implications of significant personal and business transactions.
- Lead the firm’s most complex and significant estate, gift, and trust engagements, setting engagement strategy and overseeing quality, risk management, staffing, workflow, budgets, deadlines, and client service.
- Direct high-level research and technical analysis of complex or emerging estate, gift, trust, and fiduciary tax issues; review technical memoranda and establish well-supported positions and recommendations.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with attorneys, financial advisors, family offices, trustees, executors, and other centers of influence to deliver integrated solutions and expand the firm’s presence in the estate, gift, and trust market.
- Drive practice growth by developing new business, expanding key client relationships, identifying cross-service opportunities, supporting pursuits, and collaborating across Armanino service lines.
- Advance the firm’s market reputation through thought leadership, technical publications, client alerts, industry participation, and internal and external speaking engagements focused on estate, gift, and trust matters.
- Shape the practice’s talent strategy by sponsoring and developing directors, managers, and supervisors; strengthening succession pipelines; leading technical training; and promoting consistent knowledge sharing across the tax practice.
- Provide leadership over engagement economics and operating performance, including portfolio management, pricing, billing, collections, resource planning, capacity management, and the achievement of practice goals.
- Monitor legislative, regulatory, judicial, and administrative developments affecting estate, gift, trust, fiduciary, and generation-skipping transfer taxation, and translate changes into firm guidance, client strategies, and practice priorities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Tax, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Qualified to practice before the IRS (i.e., JD, CPA, or EA).
- Minimum of 12 years' experience in public accounting, law, wealth advisory, or an equivalent role with a significant focus on estate, gift, trust, and fiduciary taxation.
- Minimum of 6 years in a senior leadership role involving complex client relationships, practice development, and the leadership of managers and other professionals.
- Demonstrated mastery of estate and gift tax planning and compliance, fiduciary income taxation, generation-skipping transfer tax, wealth transfer strategies, and the administration of trusts and estates.
- Proven ability to lead significant client relationships, develop business, manage practice economics, influence senior stakeholders, and guide teams through complex technical and operational matters.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Accounting or Taxation, LLM in Taxation or Estate Planning, or significant estate and trust specialization.
