About The Role

ER Lab Tech We are looking for a motivated and reliable Lab / ER Tech to join our team in a dual capacity, supporting both clinical laboratory operations and emergency room activities. This role involves performing basic lab procedures, specimen collection, assisting with patient care in a dynamic emergency environment, and contributing to the overall efficiency and quality of patient services. Prior experience or training in laboratory techniques and emergency medical services is preferred, but we are willing to provide training for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect and prepare specimens such as blood, urine, and other bodily fluids following established protocols.
  • Assist with fundamental laboratory testing, including sample preparation and operating simple lab equipment under supervision.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of laboratory and emergency department areas and equipment.
  • Follow safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and hospital policies to ensure a safe environment for staff and patients.
  • Accurately record, document, and communicate laboratory and patient care activities.
  • Support inventory management of laboratory and emergency supplies and reagents.
  • Perform patient care procedures such as vital signs, venipuncture, IV placement, wound care, and other supportive tasks as needed.
  • Operate laboratory equipment, conduct point-of-care testing, and ensure quality control measures are followed.
  • Monitor and restock medical supplies in both laboratory and emergency department areas.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff and communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members to facilitate seamless care.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all hospital policies and procedures.
  • Support the electronic medical records system and ensure patient data is current.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors or department leaders.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of one year of hospital or clinical laboratory experience is preferred.
  • EMT license or equivalent and Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) experience are preferred.
  • BLS certification is required; ACLS and PALS certifications are preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Dependable, responsible, and dedicated to delivering high-quality emergency and laboratory patient care.
  • Ability to quickly learn new procedures and adapt to evolving technologies.

Physical Requirements

  • Continuous: Vision, hearing, speaking, manual dexterity, and ability to perform repetitive motions.
  • Frequent: Bending, squatting, twisting, lifting up to 50 pounds with assistance, and pushing/pulling loads.
  • Occasional: Climbing, crouching, color discrimination, exposure to noise and environmental hazards.
  • Other: Use of PPE, potential exposure to infectious diseases, and risks of cuts or bruises.

Work Environment

This position involves working within a clinical laboratory and emergency room setting, requiring adherence to strict safety protocols due to exposure to biological materials and infectious risks. Flexibility in scheduling, including potential on-call hours, may be necessary. The successful candidate will be a key member of the Emergency Department team, providing compassionate, people-centered care and supporting the hospital’s mission of delivering exceptional patient services.
