GHD has an opportunity for a Senior Structural Engineer to work from any of our California offices (San Francisco, Eureka, Santa Rosa, San Luis Obispo, Long Beach, Irvine, or San Diego). Responsibilities of the Position Include
- Lead the analysis, design, evaluation, rehabilitation, and retrofit of structural systems for new and existing facilities.
- Manage and coordinate structural engineering deliverables through planning, design, and construction phases.
- Provide technical leadership and oversight to engineering, drafting, and modeling staff.
- Develop calculations, specifications, technical reports, and construction documents.
- Coordinate with architects, contractors, owners, and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Perform structural condition assessments, field investigations, and engineering evaluations.
- Support project management activities, including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, and resource planning.
- Support business development efforts through proposal preparation, fee estimating, and client interaction.
- Mentor junior staff and contribute to technical excellence within the structural practice.
- Ensure quality, consistency, and compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Strong experience in the design and evaluation of building structures in high seismic regions.
- Experience with seismic evaluation and retrofit of existing structures using ASCE 41.
- Experience with reinforced concrete, structural steel, masonry, timber, and foundation systems.
- Experience with existing buildings, structural rehabilitation, retrofit, and adaptive reuse projects.
- Experience with condition assessments and structural evaluations.
- Proficiency with structural analysis and design software such as RISA, SAP2000, ETABS, RAM, ENERCALC, TEDDS, and Mathcad.
- Experience working with local, state, and federal permitting and review agencies.
- Strong technical writing, communication, and client-facing skills.
- Experience preparing proposals, scopes of work, and engineering reports.
- Proven ability to lead projects and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong commitment to quality, safety, and professional excellence.
Education
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering.
- Minimum 15 years of relevant structural engineering experience.
- Professional Civil Engineer registration in the State of California required.
- California Structural Engineer (SE) license strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of CBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC, AISI, NDS, TMS, ASCE 41 and related design standards.
Qualifications
- Minimum 15 years of relevant structural engineering experience.
- Professional Civil Engineer registration in the State of California required.
- California Structural Engineer (SE) license strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of CBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC, AISI, NDS, TMS, ASCE 41 and related design standards.
- Post-tensioned concrete structures.
- Precast concrete design and detailing.
- Concrete repair, restoration, and rehabilitation design.
- Wind, hurricane, and typhoon-resistant structural design.
- Water and wastewater infrastructure facilities.

Salary Range: $108,000-$180,000 based on location and experience
