Washington County District Attorney’s Office is seeking to fill a Paralegal position on the General Felony Team. Ideal Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

Knowledge

  • Criminal legal procedures and rules in the state court system.
  • Principles, methods, and procedures for conducting legal research .
  • Word processing systems, filing and records management systems, and general office procedures and guidelines .

Skills

  • Use logic and reasoning to identify alternative solutions or approaches to problems.
  • Prepare legal documents and trial forms typical of court proceedings.
  • Research statutes and legal references.
  • Deal tactfully and discreetly with others on an in-person basis.

Ability

  • Effectively organize and prioritize work to meet established deadlines.
  • Organize and manage large volumes of exhibits and case documents effectively.
  • Identify and analyze discovery request problems.
  • Communicate statements of law, fact, and arguments clearly and logically in written and oral form.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in legal studies or a related field from an accredited institution, or the completion of a comprehensive formal paralegal program; AND two (2) years of professional legal support experience, including legal research, case preparation support for prosecutors, trial preparation, or related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of a Paralegal program approved by the American Bar Association
  • Experience performing paralegal work in the area of criminal prosecution

Additional Requirements

  • S uccessful completion of a criminal background check
