Data Analytics Lead - Misan by Bamboo
Bamboo · Lagos, Nigeria
About The Role
About Misan by Bamboo
Misan by Bamboo is our cross-border payments product: an all-in-one remittance and multi-currency app that lets users in Africa send and receive money across 15+ African countries as well as the US, UK, and EU. Alongside remittances, Misan offers multi-currency virtual accounts (USD, EUR, GBP) and instantly issued virtual USD cards, giving users global purchasing power without needing a foreign bank account.
Misan is operated by Internode Pay Limited, a subsidiary of Bamboo Global Inc, registered with FINTRAC in Canada as a Money Services Business and PCI DSS certified. It is one of Bamboo's fastest-growing product lines, and the data it generates, on transfers, FX, card usage, and cross-border user behaviour, is central to how we price, prioritise, and grow the product.
Job Scope
We are hiring a Data Analytics Lead for Misan by Bamboo to own data and analytics for Misan by Bamboo. This is a dedicated, product-embedded role: you will be the person who understands Misan's numbers better than anyone else at the company, from remittance volumes and corridor-level performance to FX margins, card activation, and retention across the 15+ markets Misan serves.
You will work closely with the Misan product, growth, compliance, and engineering teams, turning transaction and behavioural data into clear, decision-ready insight. You will be equally comfortable running a complex SQL query, designing an A/B test, and presenting a recommendation to leadership. You will also help shape how the wider Data function at Bamboo operates, in partnership with the Data & Analytics Manager, while keeping Misan as your primary focus. While Misan remains your primary focus, you may also be called on to support the wider Data & Analytics team on other data assignments as business needs require.
What you will be doing
Product and business analytics
- Own end-to-end analysis of Misan's performance: remittance volumes, send/receive corridors, FX spreads and margins, virtual card issuance and usage, and account funding patterns, across every market Misan operates in.
- Conduct exploratory data analysis on transaction and behavioural data to surface patterns, anomalies, and opportunities, and translate them into timely, actionable insight for the product and growth teams.
- Build and maintain dashboards and recurring reports that give Misan's stakeholders a single, trusted source of truth on product and business performance.
- Investigate data anomalies across corridors and currencies, and ensure reporting reconciles cleanly with finance and compliance records.
Experimentation and user insight
- Design, run, and analyse A/B tests on Misan app features (onboarding, KYC flows, pricing/FX display, card issuance) to evaluate impact before wider rollout.
- Analyse user interactions within the Misan app to understand behaviour, drop-off points, and friction in sending money or activating a card, and turn those findings into concrete product recommendations.
- Segment users and transactions by corridor, currency pair, and channel to identify where Misan is winning and where it is losing users or volume.
Cross-border and compliance-aware analysis
- Build fluency in the specifics of cross-border payments data: FX rates and spreads, settlement timing, corridor-level regulatory constraints, and multi-currency reconciliation.
- Partner with Compliance and Risk on data inputs for transaction monitoring, ensuring analytical work is done with full awareness of AML/KYC and data privacy requirements relevant to a regulated payments product.
- Work with Engineering to ensure Misan's event tracking and data pipelines are accurate, well-documented, and fit for purpose as new markets and features launch.
Communication and stakeholder partnership
- Present findings and recommendations clearly and concisely to product, growth, and senior stakeholders, enabling fast, well-informed decisions.
- Act as the analytical thought partner to the Misan product team, proactively surfacing insight rather than waiting to be asked.
- Contribute to the wider Bamboo Data function's standards and practices, in partnership with the Data & Analytics Manager, so that Misan's analytics are consistent with the rest of the business.
AI and analytics productivity
- Use AI tools fluently in your own analytical workflow, from query generation to synthesis and reporting, to increase the speed and depth of insight you can deliver.
- Identify opportunities to automate recurring analysis and reporting so more of your time goes to genuinely new questions.
Ad hoc tasks
- Support the wider Data & Analytics team with other data tasks and assignments as needed, in addition to your core focus on Misan.
Who you are
- You have 4 -5+ years of experience working with large, unstructured data, ideally within fintech, payments, or remittance, and have shipped recommendations that changed how a product or business operated.
- You are highly proficient in SQL (DBT) , and comfortable in at least one of Python or R, for querying, extracting, and transforming data from multiple sources.
- You have strong experience with data visualisation and BI tools (e.g. Tableau, Looker, Metabase) and are confident building dashboards that stakeholders actually use.
- You understand A/B testing methodology and have run experiments end-to-end, from design through to analysis and recommendation.
- You have a genuine interest in cross-border payments, remittances, or fintech more broadly, and are motivated by the idea of making global money movement easier for Africans.
- You can translate complex, sometimes messy transaction data into insight that a non-technical stakeholder can act on immediately.
- You are a proactive self-starter who identifies issues and opportunities and takes action without being prompted, and a dependable collaborator whom product, growth, and compliance teams can rely on.
- You are comfortable operating with a high degree of ownership as the dedicated analyst on a single, fast-growing product, rather than one of many analysts on a large shared team.
- You have a strong understanding of data governance and handle sensitive user and transaction data with the rigour a regulated payments product demands.
Nice to Haves
- Prior experience with remittance, cross-border payments, card issuing, or multi-currency products specifically.
- Experience working across multiple African markets or with multi-jurisdictional regulatory constraints.
- Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms and modern data warehousing (e.g. BigQuery, Snowflake).
- Exposure to fraud or transaction-monitoring analytics.
