About The Role
Role Purpose The Enterprise Risk Officer supports the Chief Risk Officer in the sustainable delivery and continued evolution of an effective risk management framework across Bermuda Commercial Bank’s full range of financial and non-financial risks. The role combines hands-on operational, compliance, and credit risk responsibilities with broader enterprise risk, governance, analysis and reporting activities. It is designed as a developmental position within the Risk function, providing exposure to credit risk management, enterprise risk management, compliance, regulatory engagement and strategic risk matters. Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities Collaborate with risk-focused functions at the Bank, including Operational, Cyber, Regulatory, and Compliance, as well as customer-facing and operations teams, to gather and share information about current and emerging risks, develop a comprehensive view of the Bank's risk landscape, support the development and implementation of risk appetite, and assist in shaping appropriate risk responses. Maximise the use of data, analytics, automation, and AI-enabled tools to improve risk identification, monitoring and reporting; assess adherence to risk appetite and tolerance; and evaluate alternatives for mitigating risk and strengthening resilience. Support the end-to-end management of credit risk activities, including analysis of credit applications, preparation of recommendations, credit approvals and renewals within delegated authorities, covenant and condition monitoring, portfolio oversight, maintenance of complete credit records, and timely escalation of emerging concerns. Support transaction monitoring relating to AML/ATF, sanctions, and fraud risk management. Support informed decision-making by senior leadership and the Bank’s risk governance forums through clear analysis, concise communication and high-quality reporting on material risks and opportunities. This includes leading or supporting the preparation of risk reporting for senior management, the Management Risk Committee and the Board of Directors. Develop, maintain, and periodically review risk plans, policies, procedures, tools and records needed for the effective coordination of credit and enterprise risk management activities. Provide guidance and training to promote risk awareness, ownership, and accountability to all employees of the Bank. Contribute to the development and delivery of the Risk function's priorities and business objectives, including participation in risk-related initiatives and projects, and proactive development of knowledge across credit and enterprise risk disciplines. Experience, Skills & Attributes Bachelor's degree in risk, compliance, finance, or another related discipline would be preferred; OR at least 4 years of relevant professional experience; OR a recognised relevant professional qualification and some professional experience. Some experience in banking, financial services, risk management, credit, compliance, audit, operations, finance, consulting or another analytical discipline. Demonstrated ability to analyse complex information, identify key issues, exercise sound judgement and deliver high-quality outcomes. Evidence of increasing responsibility, personal initiative and a strong desire to develop expertise across enterprise risk disciplines. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical matters clearly and concisely. Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and maintain attention to detail. Proficiency in standard office productivity tools and confidence using data, technology, automation or AI-enabled tools to improve efficiency and insight. Commitment to professional integrity, continuous learning, and completion of relevant technical or professional development. Would be desirable to have… Exposure to enterprise risk management frameworks, risk appetite, risk reporting or policy development. Knowledge of regulatory requirements applicable to Bermuda banks. Experience preparing analysis, reports or papers for senior management, management committees or boards. Progress towards, or willingness to undertake, a professional qualification in risk management, banking, finance, credit risk, compliance or a related discipline.
